And this is of course precisely the attitude they are encouraging. I own upwards of 300 audio CD's, bought in Europe at the ridiculously high prices here.I'm the last customer the record industries want to piss off.
I listen to MP3's to determine what to buy, since most record stores are not that friendly to people wanting to listen to more than one or two cd's before buying. I also rip my CD's to MP3 for convenience. (e.g. to play at work without having to carry a pile of CD's with me every day).
With this sillyness going on, I'm considering just not buying any more CD's. Why contribute to an industry that is trying to alienate me and screw me over?
So record/movie companies, if you are listening:
-> I am buying CD's/DVD's (lots of them)
-> I want to continue to do so
-> You are shafting your customers
-> Shafted customers eventually become ex-customers!
After the last article on/. about Loki being in a bit of a rotten situation, I ordered Descent III and the Demos CD. I must say, I'm really impressed. Not only was the shipping and handling of my order perfect (I live in The Netherlands), but ALL the demos (and of course Descent III) installed and played perfectly (even our Windoze gamers were impressed, not in the least by the ease of install). Kudos to Loki!
My copy of Descent III is ordered... Let's give their shipping and handling department a rough week and place some orders;-)
On a serious note, I don't really ever buy games (don't play them much), but we can't let Loki go. They contribute SO MUCH to the community! A great deal of the code they write gets put under GPL or LGPL and is of high standard.
but .doc is just a standard
.doc may be ubiquitous, but it is far from a standard. And yes, there is a difference!
Sorry,
