Yes they do exactly what they want. Just the same way a politician will make all of their own decisions after getting millions from oil companies and other "pacs" with special interests.
The bittorrent website actually has you choose whether you are a business or a personal interest when accessing their site. I know personally i get all my linux stuff through bit torrent. The look at this technology as something only used for piracy would definitely be doing the technology a disservice.
yes, it may be used to invade privacy, violate civil rights if used by the government, and for stalking, but everyone can do it equally, and that makes it ok.
Im not completely familiar with how this could be done so forgive me if im being ignorant. But if this is a virus that scans peoples hard drives and sends back info, if it only sends file names that it is easily defeated by using nondescript file names. If it actually sends back the files themselves then its going to take a huge amount of bandwidth eating up the citizens network and most likely alerting the would be terrorist anyways. It seems like this would be awfully tough to implement, but this is more of a really. I just want to know how this could really work.
Agreed, i work for an ISP and ive found that most people simply don't know what the policy is. How many people really read the entire employee handbook unless they have gotten in trouble. More than that how many can remember 5 things from it that don't have to do with getting paid?
Its unrealistic for sure, but at the very least the ideas seem to be headed in a good direction: Protecting the consumer. It is unfortunate though that it will never happen, its like wanting radio commercials to slowly and clearly state their disclaimers as well. At the very least though i do think we should get some sort of notification, not a popup but maybe a little icon in the lower corner of the screen to let us know.
