  1. Re:F1 Cars on Sports Technology? · · Score: 1

While I agree that F1 racing has benefitted greatly from advances in materials technology & design, there is another motor sport that would not exist without the present day advances in materials technology, engine efficency engineering, shock engineering, and most notably, CA-design: Monster Truck racing.

While it was possible 10 years ago to jump a jacked-up truck over cars, today's MT can do 50+mph wheelstands over semi-truck trailers, and land, more than once! We're talking 5 tons of highly engineered vehicle, including 6' tires, repeatedly bouncing over things at speed.

  2. It will be a long, slow death on End In Sight For Alpha · · Score: 1

While the Alpha architecture has been "killed" (per comments on comp.os.vms), it will last quite a while in it's death throes.

    HP states (in the article):
"Although HP plans to stop developing new Alpha chips, the company has said it will keep selling Alpha-based systems as long as there is
customer demand, likely until 2006. "

That should really read: "likely until AT LEAST 2006". Alpha sales have by no means tapered off since the original EOL announcement in June of 2001.

  3. Value of our opinions on Feds to Publish Public Comments on MS Settlement · · Score: 1

In reading the PDF describing the litigants response to the Tunney act filings, it appears they suggest to the judge to disregard the substance of the filings themselves, and just continue with the case, as the filings would only delay the proceedings.

As one of the valid filers, I would hope at least the substanitive filers would at least get a hearing.
