  1. I don't mind them geolimiting, but... on Netflix CEO Says Blocking Proxy Services Is Maturation of Internet TV (mobilesyrup.com) · · Score: 5, Informative

I understand that for the time being they need to follow geolimits posed upon them from those licensing out the content. Hopefull this will mature too. Hollywood is still stuck in the old days in regards to distribution.

But the simple fact is that. 15000 titles in the US, compared to around 3000 titles where I live, is not worth the price they are asking.
Lower the price so match the amount of content and it's fine. But paying the same as the US with 1/5th of the content. No.

  9. I have a pretty big dvd (and now bluray) collection but found myself using netflix and itunes (apple tv) more andmore. I use itunes to rent movies, as I do not want to build a collection tied to ecosystem like apple (or any other for that mater).
I rent movies on itunes, watch series and movies on netflix, and if I stuble across anything really good then I'll buy it on dvd/bd. Because I really like to own good movies.

But during the years I have very rarly fetched one of my dvds and played it. Untill a month ago when I just completed the entire collection into plex.

My rule of thumb is this. If a show contains reoccurring:
    1) Annoying laugh track
    2) Will happen / has happened
    3) Two characters facing the same camera in a lengthy drama dialog (strong soap opera indicator)

...it's best to find something else to watch.

I wish they would create a condensed version of Mythbusters with just the actual program and not any fluff.

  11. I switches to a cheap colour laser a few years ago and it's just so much easier to deal with. No more cleaning before printing, hvite stripes in printout, etc
The only problem is the HP driver.
For some reason the driver constantly pings the printer ip, even when connected to a different network. And the ICMP payload seems to be pretty random.
Triggered the IDS at work, so now I need to remove the driver after each use. But I don't really print that much at home from my company laptop so it's not a big issue.

But they really could spend a little more time on cleaning up their drivers.

  18. Re:Eat less than you burn on Hacking Weight Loss: What I Learned Losing 30 Pounds · · Score: 1

Actually it is much much more complicated than that.

I agree that for the most part, the information you wrote is enough.
But there really are a lot more to metabolism than these simple rules.

    A few simple examples:
Ketones kan leave the body through breath or bio (wc)
Insulin can, if not regulated correctly by the body, convert energy to fat, before the body can make use of that energy.
Thyroxin can prevent energy for being used by muscles.

And also; are calories really an exact measurment for energy available to the body?
    The answer is no.
Calories where originaly calculated by burning material and measuring how much heat it produced. Now they just use the amount of fat, carbs and protein and multiply by a set factor for each. With a few adjustments.
The problem is that the body doesn't actually burn anything, and amount of potential energy in something is not the same as what the body will absorb. We also need a quite a few fatty acids. The body will probably not just convert these neccesary fatty acids as "fuel". Even though they count quite high in calories.

Things are more complicated than we think, and we have really just scratched the surface on how the body actually work.

But your advice is still sound.

It is odd that PC manufacturers are willing to ruin their brands just to earn a few extra bucks.

I have never owned a mac before, but after my last encounter with a high-end Vaio I’m seriously considering a macbook pro as my next laptop. Don’t get me wrong, it ws a very nice laptop. Good battery, expansions and a carbon chassis.
HP (and Compaq before that) business laptops where ok after a reinstall, but the Vaio was just a pain. Shared libraries needed to be installed in a certain order, or it would freak out and tell you that the battery was critical and just shut down. Also support for Windows 8 was just appalling.
Anyway, it shouldn' t be neccesary to reinstall a brand new laptop. They really take the fun out of unboxing it.

It looks like Microsoft cracked the code with their Surface Pro. Clean install and a continuing brand name. Leneovo (and others) could even do what Amazon does with Kindle. Charge more for a clean version.
