I can't speak for the Greens, but do you have any idea how small the Libertarian organizations are? The party in the state I live in has an unpaid executive director and a volunteer state committee. None of us are able to make our living as political wonks. Even the national party has just a handful of paid staff. I think the national budget is something in the ballpark of a million dollars from some number of donors. Putting all that money behind Sarvis in Virginia would barely budge his numbers.

So many people are conditioned to vote R or D because that's what they've always done. Most people only vote for specific parties and rarely research the candidates before heading to the ballot box. As a prime example, Republican primary voters in my state voted a felon as their auditor candidate over the party backed candidate. Twice, an embarrassment was voted the Libertarian gubernatorial nominee over party backed candidates whose only crime were having surnames that didn't sound Murican enough. States should stop funding party primaries and let them either handle it at convention or require them to pay for them.

Back in the '60s or maybe '70s, something had leaked into the pond near the property line, making some of the cattle sick. Amazingly, the government laws on pollution did not prevent this accident but his hiring of a lawyer with his private money made him whole without having to go to court.

Where I live, party committees don't pick who is on the ballot unless a candidate withdraws from the race.

Missouri's Republican party had a massive aversion to the first wave of Ron Paul supporters in the 2008 election. Even thought they showed up as you say, and became members of the county committee, and were selected as delegates to district conventions and so on.

In 2012, the RP folks were better organized and educated and swept the county caucus where I live and also placed several people on the county committee. They came within one vote of having their candidate defeat the sitting chairman in the primary elections for committeeman. They have some of the power that you think the position wields, but I'm fairly certain the establishment still looks down at them.

Will the federal government make it easier for crooks to get this information by requiring it to be present on all IDs?

People argue that third parties shouldn't run for president, but I say it gets them more exposure than running the "smaller" races, which they already have candidates slotted for. We're running a full slate of statewide candidates in Missouri, for instance. In Texas, Michael Badnarik's home state, the LP has candidates in all Congressional districts except for Ron Paul's, who ran as the LP presidential candidate back 92 or 96 I believe.
