Install nmap and nmapfe, portscan your box, and you'll see what ports are open for yourself. Shutdown specific services, portscan again, and you'll see that the ports for those services are no longer open.

I call bullshit on this one...the "Apple Pricing" policy sets a floor on the lowest price that a retailer can SELL one of their products. This is an artificially inflated price that Apple chooses, which is significantly more than you would pay if you bought exactly the same item manufactured by the same company, without the Apple brand on it (or Apple's assurances that it will work, even though it will). RAM upgrades for the Mac are a perfect example of this.

Never even heard of the "Super Drive," before you mentioned it. I looked it up and it's just a 3.5" high-density floppy or a CD-DVD combo burner. I don't see anything "super" about either technology.

While you could use Macs to gauge when a new technology has "made it", Apple actually inflates the price of the hardware they sell and has a history of price-fixing. More customizable computer platforms with lots of driver support have probably had a bigger impact on sales of new technology than Apple. Features and cost dictate when a technology has arrived...and the Wii is a prime example of that. I have an HDTV in my living room, but no HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (and now I want to download HD porn...thanks, Slashdot). I'm waiting on the $200 PS3 closeout sale after Christmas ;-).

If she's hot enough, I would use infrared camera to search her bag and see through her clothes (to make sure she's not hiding a camera, of course).

I'm a big fan of a greyscale night-vision mode with an infrared filter on a sunny day at the beach myself.

If she's not so hot, someone else can search her while I record the movie on my fancy camera.

The IE6 on my desktop at home was reporting errors when I closed it (probably some spyware gripping tightly to the dying browser), so I finally decided to install IE7 and they asked me if I would fill out a survey about my satisfaction with Microsoft products and services...gave them a piece of my mind about the "patent infringements" they won't detail and their FUD campaign against open source technology.

I'm so glad that Microsoft has abandoned enforcement of their "patents" against companies like RedHat and IBM.

In my survey response, I told them that I would not purchase a single MS product (went on to list the OS, Office, Xbox360, SQL Server, Zune, Halo 2 PC, etc) until they detailed their "patent disputes" for response or resolution...not that I will make a difference to their bottom line, but if every consumer boycotted new Microsoft products...

  9. IPv6 on Security Top Concern for New IETF Chair · · Score: 1

    Q. Can you give me three specific goals? A. Rollout of IPv6 is clearly one of them. IPv6 is on by default in most OSes and the autoconfiguration feature assures that once the routers enable IPv6, their new IPv6 addresses will be Internet-routable without stateful firewalling, which would break things like VOIP.

I thank me for keeping technical services vendors and central IT honest, by constantly calling them on all of their bullsh!t. Most importantly, I thank me for being the pioneer in my large government agency, who went against what that the CIO wanted in terms of running Microsoft servers and databases and instead running Linux, Apache, Tomcat, Axis, and JBoss (Oracle is my DB)...our uptime, reliability, and performance are the best in the agency. Is the hardcore gaming market turned off by Nintendo's expansion? Not one bit...but I think many will remain pissed over not having AO titles available on the Wii (or any other console, for that matter).
