Nah, I don't have a PS3 (didn't feel like lining up at Bic Camera for the whole night). The impressions are just from looking at the photos.
As for the posts regarding heat, etc., see here and here. There does seem to be some variation regarding the heat output - everybody agrees that the fan is very quiet, but some people are saying it gets warm, whereas others say it gets very hot. One thing that was mentioned is that the power consumption is lower than expected, peaking around 190W or so.
Impressions: - That's one huge cooling fan! - Why did they use a Seagate drive, when Seagate is known for sucking more power than just about anybody else? - Not as many components on the MB as you might expect for a first revision. - The ATI RSX has its video memory on the module, but not in-core.
According to posts on various Japanese sites, there also seem to be a few problems. - The unit gets hot. Very hot. - A couple of people reported the unit powering off during the software update, which permanently bricked the unit. - The browser can't play Flash.
...there's a lot of stupid replies saying "it must be a hoax", "copyright infringement isn't a criminal offense", "why should he be arrested for playing a couple of songs", etc., and since replies seem to be broken...
- The guy arrested had been running the bar and doing live performances there since 1981. - JASRAC had approached him repeatedly since 2001 to cough up the required fees for his performances (just like every other bar, club, pub and watering hole in Japan). - He had continually refused to pay those fees. - In Japan, copyright infringement is covered by both civil and criminal law. - JASRAC went to the police and asked them to enforce the law.
That's about it. He knew what the law is, and he kept on breaking it, so he got arrested.
Nice one, dipshit. It's genuine. The original Japanese article has his full name and address, and it's been on all the major Japanese news services since this afternoon (he was arrested this morning).
WHAT FUCKING PART OF THE WORD "JAPAN" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!?
This is in Japan. It is another country. It does not have the same laws as the USA (yes, I know this is hard to grasp for some of you). In Japan, copyright infringement can be both a civil and a criminal offense. In this case, he had refused to pay fees to the appropriate organisation for the last five years, and thus they submitted a request to the police to enforce the criminal law associated with copyright infringement.
He *was* the owner of the venue. The guy owned the bar and performed in it himself, as well as employed other people to perform there. What wasn't expressed very well in the English article was that he'd been doing this for the last 25 years, and JASRAC (the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers) had been after him for the last five years to pay up or shut up.
Not on Solaris they're not, which is what I use... Not to mention that awk on Solaris has limits on maximum file size - so you need to use nawk instead.
Of course he didn't. Is there some magical terrorist conspiracy that you know about, which retroactively involves anybody doing anything remotely useful to terrorists in their actions? Perhaps the airlines better be charged with conspiracy too, because they sure as hell had a lot more to do with 9/11 than this guy has with any terrorist action you know about.
There's --posix, but I believe it doesn't disable the bash extensions, only changes functions that differ from POSIX to match the standard. Perhaps someone could do --strict-posix?
It's probably not too bad if a US Senator had a billboard put up just down the road a couple of years beforehand that said "Every apartment in the building is unlocked".
Don't be ridiculous. You're comparing a person demonstrating how to produce fake boarding passes with a person who participates in the planning and execution of a crime. That's bullshit, and you know it.

OK, so RSX is NVidia. Now fuck off, you little turd.
...PC Watch bought one and took it apart.

The high-end box didn't have an RRP - it was "open price", which means the retailer can set whatever price they like.
Actually, it's true - a UK travel agent set up a tour for a bunch of people to fly to Tokyo specifically to buy a PS3.
Re: Price / Console differences
The extra money gets you:
- 60GB hard drive
- Memory Stick/SD/CF card reader
- 802.11b/g wireless
....yet another non-existent comment numbered 16777215. And another one. And another one.
Normally, accessing a non-existent comment gets you either the "nothing to see here" message or the "can't find that comment in this discussion" message. Where are the ghost comments coming from?
...comment 16777215.
Mmmm... CT, are you sure the parent index was your only problem?

All you people making posts in this story regarding the RIAA - do you actually know what the last character in that acronym stands for?

I was talking about grep, not awk - it was in reply to your comment "No need for egrep; grep regexps are all extended."
But you still knew exactly what I was talking about, so like I said, stop being anal.
He did say "BSD", not "OpenBSD", so don't be a totally anal prick about it.
You know as well as I do that he's talking about Chuck.

Uh-huh.
Now, please tell me how to reproduce egrep or grep -v or grep -w or grep -i with awk.
If I learn how to use grep, I can use it anywhere.

Interestingly enough, it IS possible to distinguish the new artifical diamonds from natural ones.
;)
The artificial ones have fewer impurities and inclusions
Have you tried the Ubuntu beta? Pretty damn bleeding edge (they've had things like Firefox 2.0 betas in there for ages now).
You should be able to put it into /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and have every version pick it up from there.
