The aircraft must have been running Linux. That's what you get when you use a free operating system, written by a bunch of hobbyist coders. Linux can't even compete in the same category as Windows. Windows is far superior. Linux doesn't even have an easy means for DACL manipulation and the list goes on.
Let's be frank my good man. Windows is a better operating system. If you want to spend hours compiling this and compiling that then get a Linux box. Objectively Ubuntu has come real far as a distro, however, there are things that still don't work out of the box and in this area Microsoft excels. In the end you will become frustrated with using Linux on a daily basis and eventually install Windows, so it is better to get the license at a discount now.
OpenOffice is slow and bloated. It will never measure up to Micosoft Office, which is by far a superior product. When you need to run a business get MS Office. If you want to operate like a mom and pop shop get OpenOffice. It's as simple as that.
You could never in ten lives measure up to the programming skill of Mark Russinovich or develop a better operating system than Windows. You can shut up now.
As someone who also objectively likes Microsoft products I have to agree with you here. WGA makes the legitimate customer feel like a criminal.
"need to move my FreeNAS to a better box anyway so that's what I'll probably do after wiping it."
Perhaps you should pick up Microsoft Home Server? It will work out of the box and you won't have to spend hours recompiling the kernel etc. to get it to work.
It's because of the ever shrinking UNIX installs, since Windows Server has become the dominant operating system in the data center. TechNet is a more relevant magazine that all of you open source zealots should start reading. Linux with Beryl is great for flipping your screen around in a cube all day. Windows is great for when you want to run a business.
I won't comment on Sun because I honestly don't know anything about their directory services.
Novell, well I know that they had an excellent product back in the day when I was administering 4.X, however, their marketing department or should I say lack thereof ruined them. If you mention Novell to most people anymore you get a blank expression usually. Nov.... what?
You are supposed to respect them because at a minimum they can offer an intuitive directory service e.g. Active Directory. Something the open source community can't even come close to. You can go take a shower now stinky open source zealot. Brush your teeth while you are at it. Then we can talk about how all of the office applications work together seamlessly. People who want their business software to scale as their business grows use Microsoft applications. People who want to remain a mom and pop shop use Open Office, Evolution etc.
Well, of course. If you have to run a business people don't have time to be compiling their web server from source etc. IIS is a superior web server in that it is secure and easy to set up and configure. Open source zealots don't get it, which is why they can't even shower.

It was built by aliens some time ago.

Wow, you made an objective comment about Windows on Slashdot and got a Score:3, Informative! That's amazing!!!! Well done!!!!
"Get ready to be modded down for the suggestion though :)"
Yeah, it's a crime that anyone suggest a Microsoft product.
I think you need a padded cell. Your domain speaks for itself.

Here is a good video.
Funny, I was starting to think that there would be a single day on Slashdot without an anti-Microsoft story.

"If Microsoft can't get Vista working, I might just do the unthinkable: I might move to Linux."
.rpm or .deb you'll have to compile from source.
Good luck getting that wireless card to work out of the box.
Good luck getting video to look as crystal clear as in Windows.
