    If China is so hell bent on censoring that it would actually pull a dick move like that, then I say it's on China.

    Put another way...

    A bank robber takes a customer hostage. The police try to sharpshoot the robber and in the robber's last moments somehow gets enough adrenaline to squeeze off a scorched earth shot that kills the hostage a split second after the police take him down.

    I for one would praise Google for finding a loophole, and condemn China alone for squashing innocent bystanders in the process of closing said loophole.

    I have a good idea.

    Each year, tax a person a dollar a year for every pound they weigh, but give them credits for good health:
    * A dollar for every pound they can bench
    * 10 dollars for every point they score on the VO2 max test
    * other measures of good health.

    Quick and clean incentive to get healthy.

    The fast food and snack industry would whine, but screw them.

    And they have no fear, because their seats are secure at least until reelection time.

    And if they can make a shitload of money in bribes^Wpolitical contributions before their terms are up they have every incentive to milk their positions for all they are worth and then breeze out of office laughing all the way to the bank.

    We the people cannot fire (recall) bad federal politicians. They can only be impeached by their fellow corporate teat sucking buddies.

    I don't really get sick, but just sigh in resignation.

    With the upper class having all the gold and pushing all the buttons it's hard to get righteously angry at something that powerful people will make damn sure I can't do anything about.

    Hell, I can't even run for office. The powers that be will make sure the media will never give me any face time.

    I agree with "work for hire" on principle since you are still getting a paycheck and are using the company's resources.

    However, I think the answer here is education.

    Make sure people know about work for hire.

    Which is completely reasonable from a legal POV. It may be evil, but leveraging your copyrights to make sure you're the only one that gets to upload it is completely legal.

    Filing a frivolous lawsuit against youtube for clips that you DID authorize, however, is not.

    I do hope Viacom gets spanked by the judge for abuse of process. Even if it was done by accident, uploading clips and then suing youtube for hosting them is a low blow.

    If viacom is doing that on purpose then there should be hell to pay.

    Honestly, in this case I'd call for sanctions.

    Actually, yes.

    Don't know the citation for it, but drug activity by tenants has and still does result in sanctions for the landlord.

    In fact, there was such a case. Landlord had his building confiscated by the feds after they caught wind of drug dealing by his tenants.

    But generally speaking, at least for felonies, if you know about it and don't report it you're guilty of concealing the crime.
