I read somewhere that this device can handle somewhere around 640,000 atoms at any given time with no plans for future expansion... 640K should be enough for anybody!

  2. Re:Teaching Graphic Design on Old Software or Open Source? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I agree completely. Look at Computer Science curricula in high schools and colleges - they use obscure languages like SML/NJ and Pascal to teach concepts and theories that can be applied to any "modern" language. I'm a web application developer and the company I work for uses ASP.NET and SQL Server primarily. I had never touched either either when I was in high school or college, but learning the fundamentals of data structures, RDBMS's and Object-orented programming through Java/C++ and MySQL allowed me to pick them up very easily. If you focus on the concepts (layers, paths, filters, etc.) they'll be much better prepared for the future than if they learned that [keyboard shortcut] activates the [tool] in Photoshop vX.X. And don't even get me started on WYSIWYG editors...

I think another issue with Real ID is going to be the increased confidence in these new ID's that are supposedly "unfakable". Now a terrorist with a corrupt insider at the DMV can get a scannable, bona fide, *REAL* ID with someone else's name on it that would not be given a second thought since the barcode/watermark/etc is so "secure".

I would much rather trust PayPal's servers than every little Mom & Pop business with an e-commerce website that they hired the local high school wiz-kid to create on $4/month shared hosting. N.B. I used to be that wiz-kid.

  6. Take a lesson from the US Early-adopters on Does the UK iPhone Plan Add Up? · · Score: 0, Redundant

Come on, don't you guys know how this works by now? You wait on line for hours to get your hands on one of the very first UK iPhones with an overly expensive 2 year agreement, then two months later new "improved" (cheaper) service plans are offered and you get a gift certificate as a consolation prize for being a sucker.
