  1. It's not terrible. on Hostile ta Vista, Baby · · Score: 1

    Is everyone just really lazy?

Do people not ENJOY learning new things?

I use Vista. I'm not stupid. I'm not lazy either, especially when it comes to my PC.

I really enjoy figuring things out, and Vista has a lot.

Sure that's not good for the average I-don't-know-what-the-hell-I'm-doing user, but that's not me. And that's all I care about.

Vista provides possible ways to turn off EVERY single annoying thing, as well as running ANY program in XP compatability mode, and it works. UAC? Turned off. ReadyBoost? Turned off. All that junk no one needs? Turned off.

And now, with a little work and adjustment, Vista has completely replaced XP for me. I am hindered in no possible ways, and my overall usability of my PC has increased.

It's not even slow. Vista runs much more processes than XP, but if you get them down to a controlled necessary number, it does a good job. I can't remember the last time I had to wait for any of my programs to open. The only slow thing is file transfers, which isn't a big deal. If you need to move 1gb files around your hard drive all the time, you have problems. And if it's a flashdrive you're moving it to, then stop storing your porn on your keychain.

And a big bonus? Through downloaded Dock programs, the sidebar, and other things I've added, my Vista literally feels like I'm running a computer from the future, but it's sweet because It's definitely happening today.

They big key point in this article is we're understanding how we're learning. You know who can't learn too well yet? Computers. Who learns much better than them? We do. Learning how we learn (weird.) is a huge step in technological advancement, more specifically in the advancement of A.I. Maybe with this, the I won't be so A.

  3. Think BIGGER. on Scientists Build Possibly The First Man-Made Genome · · Score: 1

This guy is saying the new platform for programming would basically be lifeforms themselves, correct? Well, even if I completely missed the point I'll just continue because I'm sure that isn't far off anyhow. With those type of skills, think of all the HUGE possibilities that open up. With direct control over molecular life and the way they behave, I see no reason we shouldn't be able to just...send one in my brain and have it boot another cell out and completely replace it, with the old cells same functions. And with this direct control, there is room for improvements that can be implemented by our technological advancements. With direct control, we could improve our brain. And then the can of worms will REALLY open.

  4. But IS it really worth the cost? on Why Space Exploration Is Worth the Cost · · Score: 1

I mean, I'm all for investigating the outskirts of existence itself, but let's face it. No one really has any clue what the hell they're talking about. What we do know is incredibly fundamental considering how deep that rabbit hole really goes. So yea, it's a good investment. But there are better. Why not give all this funding to the people researching the advances that will lead to a super intelligence? Nanotechnology, true AI coding, etc. After we get to that point, we won't need to pussy foot around with our silly little theories, we will then most certainly have the ability to understand it, as well as understanding whatever questions that understanding led us to ask. It's almost a redundant use of resources, imo.
