  1. This is RIDICULOUS! on French Court To Yahoo!: Dump Nazi-Related Auctions · · Score: 3

I understand that this may not be a good business strategy, but Yahoo! should just tell France to go (censored) themselves. The judge even went so far as to ORDER Yahoo! to cough up some cash.

It's pretty hard for them to control all the auctions that go on on their site... and even though they may be able to, who says they should?

C'mon, France, I understand that this is reminiscent of a horrible time, but give it up already. The sale of this stuff is harmless... just a bunch of items for collectors.

Dreamcast beat PS2 (Dolphin: wait and see).

Oh come on, it hasn't even been released anywhere but Japan yet. Give it a little time before you start saying who wins.

Plus, Sony has SquareSoft on their side. I know people who would cut off limbs to get the newest SquareSoft games...

Then there's the people (like me) who have nothing better to spend their money on and buy all the systems that have games that interest them.

Another couple strong points of the PS2 is backwards compatibility (yes, I know about BleemCast!, but it's a lot less compatible...)... and those old PSXs aren't going to last forever, has a better controller (I know that's debatable, but the dual shock 2 is COOL), and can play DVDs. I (and other people I know) are holding off on buying a DVD player because we know we can get a game system and DVD player in one.

Anyways, after all that... we'll have to wait and see. The PS2, in my eyes, looks like a serious contender... the price may be a bit steem, though. Time will tell, I suppose.

I imagine that it would make it MUCH harder to 'squash' because it would open up many many more legit uses for the program.

  8. kinda OT... about ads. on House To Hold Hearing On Napster · · Score: 2

Unfortunately, advertising on the Internet doesn't work!

... and advertising on the radio does? Most people just change the station.

or what about TV? Only lately have the commercials started to get interesting... before these, the commercials were an excuse to get up and get food... or go to the bathroom or whatever.

The ad companies don't realize that clickthroughs DON'T MATTER. The purpose of advertising is to get your name known, or convince people to buy something you provide... but not expect them to do it right away!

If you were watching TV and a commercial came on, and it pretty much gave 1 sentence and the name of the company, and told you to change to channel 294 for more information, NO ONE WOULD DO IT. The ad people are nuts for expecting people to do the equivalent of that on their comps.

    errr... sorry for the rant.

Well... They do have a lot of old PSXs sitting around, I'm sure. So they probably want to get rid of them. Also, this doesn't make the PSX2's ability to play PSX CDs seem quite as spectacular anymore.
