I'm not sure how you can say there's an overemphasis on modern communication (vis a vis The Interweb). The advancement of group communication among humans, is probably a bit more important than an specific domain of knowledge. This is due to the tricky dependence on utilizing and growing that knowledge by communication with other humans.
I might be in the minority, but I flat out disagree.
This wasn't about saving or protecting lives. This was about property.
Please stop acting like this is any different than not paying an insurance premium, other than most localities provide fire protection as a social service.

This is an HTTP-based service where router MAC addresses are mapped to approximate GPS coordinates from other data sources. There are NO special browser requirements, nor does a user need to be prompted. I determined this protocol by using Firefox's Location-Aware Browsing.
It's not supposed to be a geolocation IP lookup, but he fails to describe how it ISN'T. Sure looks like it to me.
I often rate movies I have seen in the past 30 years, including many movies I never finished watching. I also rate series based on if I have watched them, dismissed them, or plan to watch them. I'm not sure how the metric of "how long it would take to watch everything rated" matters anymore than "how long it would take to meta-rank every subdomain of.com"
> This kind of ignorance may be "no loss" to society until it becomes widespread enough to perpetuate itself
This is classic FUD. What if Obama IS a secret Muslim? People assuaged by the fear of an alarmist eventuality that has no supporting evidence and is incredibly unlikely, is again, no loss. How does someone find it insightful?
I've always found it much better to interact with companies directly. Recruiters rarely know enough about any job to find people that fit the job. I think a used car salesman has more integrity than a recruiter.
I'm not sure where the idea that a recruiter means you somehow don't (ever?) interact with the company before getting hired. You interview. The same as if you were replying to a job posting, which is even weaker than dealing with a recruiter. I'm not sure how getting me interviews with places I might want to work, for people who might want to hire me == lack of integrity. I don't see how the inability to get a job or find qualified people, is on the recruiter, or why all the headhunter hate in general.
Bupropion does indeed cause weight loss in a very significant number of patients.
That's why I asked, which ones. Also, wellbutrin was new and was not known to be significantly different in how it affected eating when it first came on the market. The psychiatrist told me to expect the weight gain. I'm not sure why you think a random post on/. is supposed to be legitimate medical information.
I wasn't smoking. However, I was on a mood stabilizer as well. So there's that. I don't know of anyone who's just on wellbutrin. It may be that it reduces hunger in isolation.
> You're an idiot. I could easily give you a test that you would fail.
So what? That's not the point of an evaluation. That's an arbitrary test designed for me to fail. I don't see how that applies. Why test students then? You're a hypocrite at best, a troll at heart.
> A few years ago a gentleman calling himself Major Malfunction decided to do a proof of concept at Defcon on the dangers of RFID. He set up a table with a box doing RFID queries. When the box got a return and found usable data, it snapped a picture
I'm not sure why this story is interesting. What's the difference in this scenario vs if he snapped a picture of everyone walking by? everyone with a phone? wearing red? I don't get it.
All things are governed by randomness, including natural selection which is an effect, not a driving force. Natural Selection is the succinct description of an observation. A random sample in a random situation tend to proliferate (not guaranteed, turns out, random samples do not always pass on genes) because of common traits.
Saying Natural Selection is not random is as much a misnomer a the "man-made element" myth. By an element's very existence, it's a natural element. Man is part of nature and happens to have created conditions to allow the element to be observed.
a pragmatic attitude is one which produces the best results.
I know it comes off as argumentative (i'm sorry), but the word "best" is relative. I prefer to expect pragmatism when looking at people's motivations, but I consider it an unfortunate outlook (utility is also relative). YMMV
If half food is just a lethal as no food, screw it. I'd rather be risky when my survival depends on having enough food. I'm a pretty smart monkey.
Yes it's not that way in modern society, but I figure the species will get over it in time for the sun to explode. Then what? We'll be saying "we can get almost far enough away and hope there's some random alien to save us in the bleakness of the void, if we survive"
Spin your attitude problems into a positive, then shift the blame to the user.
I did neither.
Pragmatism isn't a positive, it's an unfortunate compromise with reality (not a perfect place to live).
I didn't blame "the user". Where do you get THAT from? I effectively illustrated the hypocrisy of such an extreme view with sarcasm.
Please provide a nicer rephrasing that's acceptable to you (although I feel you are offended on an ideological level). I don't begrudge you the opportunity to show me a better way to present my opinion in a succinct and interesting manner. I seek such knowledge.
He played it 3 times. He used the shotgun a couple times, died, and decided it wasn't fun enough to bother playing for free on the web (flash) or by any other means.

Good for them. I wonder why apple wanted it so bad?

Opossum's are particularly resistant to rabies due to a low body temperature+environment. That's just FUD sensationalism.
Don't badmouth the opossum like that.
> Big differences. Huge, giant, overwhelming differences, in fact.
How's that a fact? Where's the BENEFIT of 1 machine @ 20x over 20 in parallel? In a matter of weeks, it won't matter so who cares?

Paypal did. Has anyone asked, why you would think this story was worth commenting on without knowing about Minecraft and its popularity?

None of these things offset the increased mortality effect, per the study. As stated elsewhere, buddhist monks use this study as toilet wipes.
Clearly the answer is to stay off the radar by living off-planet. I for one, hate the moon this time of year.

Generally, antidepressants don't do this. Wellbutrin (from experience) also, does not do this. Which ones do?
So your answer is "dont test people at all" ?
You're fired.
Tests are a better measure than nothing. Nothing's perfect and that's life. That's the correct answer.

Now that makes sense.

How does that apply to this article, in any way?
