The claim also states "SCO has published false statements in a series of widely-distributed press releases... as part of its bad faith campaign to discredit IBM's products and services in the marketplace... IBM has suffered damages in an amount to be determined at trial."
Hopefully, this will require SCO to reveal more evidence since IBM is claiming that SCO's current practices are causing damage. In related news, SCO stock continues to drift lower under heavy volume...
The powerful EU officials are not directly elected by the populace You consider this a virtue? I much prefer being governed by leaders directly elected by the people than by bureaucrats in Brussels.
The powers/existance of Non-Persons [Corps] should also be reduced or even eliminated. Just like the constitution/founding fathers intended.
Can't say I agree with you here. The constitution was written to control the powers of the federal government and "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity".
I don't think the founding fathers had any intention of controlling "greedy corporations".
so what's unconstitional? The corps themselves, or Gvmt streaching to control/milk $$ from said corp?
Tenth amendment:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
By this standard, much of the regulation by the federal government is unconstitutional.
The preponderance of the evidence leads me to an obvious conclusion -- changes in individual living things occur from generation to generation. Enough time and changes occur, and you have this thing called evolution. In some ancient businesses, it's just called breeding.
There are very few "creationists" who would argue that evolution in the sense of adaptation or survival of the fittest does not occur. The big question is, can something as complex as a human being really evolve from a single celled creature in the mud, no matter how much time. I agree with PingXao in the sense that it has always seemed odd to me that evolutionary scientists get so bent out of shape by creationists. There is a lot of irony in that. Not to mention it is not very scientific.
The government will not change because the corporations (who own the government, figuratively speaking) will not let them change. Until we get rid of campaign contributions and begin doing public funding of campaigns, the corporations will continue to control the government
You've got this backwards. The reason companies feel compelled to lobby is because the federal government (of the U.S.) has exerted so much power (much of it unconstitutional) on corporations. The answer is not to restrict freedom of speech, but to reduce the reach and power of the federal government, as the founding fathers intended.
And *that* is the last time I got "support" from MS... Last I heard "real" incidents of MS support are charged $100/$200 or so to get support.
My last time was when I found a bug in their C++ library that was causing my program to crash. I told them exactly where in the source the bug was and they wrote back asking for an example. They finally admitted to the bug and assured me that I wouldn't be charged for the incident. Sheesh.
Last I heard, Gore is winning the popular vote by less than 100,000. With 100 million votes cast that is less than 0.1%. Now, we're waiting for the Florida recount because it was mandated by law for elections closer then 0.5%. For those of you saying that Gore should be the next president because he won the popular vote, it seems fair to say that a national recount would be necessary.
One advantage of the electoral college is that we only have to recount them in Florida. Can you imagine what a nightmare it would be if we had to verify all the popular votes to determine the next president?
In any case, the recount results are skewing heavily to Gore, so my whole point may be moot. Let's hope so.
That's because the big counties -- which went heavily to Gore -- have already reported. For the most part, the counties remaining are smaller, rural counties which were won handily by Bush. See for yourself.
National Review (a conservative magazine for those that might not know) is saying that Bush should appoint some Democrats in his administration in order to avoid being called "His Fraudulency" as Rutherford Hayes was back in 1876.
hopefully the democrats will realize they'll have to move farther left...
Do the names Carter, Mondale, and Dukakis mean anything to you? All of them were significantly to the left of Clinton and all of them were wiped out by Reagan and Bush.
a Bush presidency is a dreadful thought
Give me a break. I'm so tired of hearing this. I think Bush (and his future cabinet) will be much better for the country than Al Gore and his people, but I don't dread Gore as president. This country is too great for any one man to foul up in four years, especially since Clinton couldn't do it in eight.
You've been listening to Alec Baldwin, Cher, and the pseudo-intellectuals too much.
You'd have thought losing Congress in 1994 would have done the trick
Well, if the "lesson" from '94 is that the Dems need to move left it will make it a lot easier for the Republicans going forward. The reason they were thrown out were HillaryCare (a lefties dream!) and other liberal shenanigans.
You don't even have to go to the website. Just put KDE in your/etc/apt/sources.list, update dselect and you can download all the debs you want along with dependency checking.
I'd buy a computer from VA Linux if they'd pre-install Debian. When I called to ask about it they said that they had no plans to do so. Any chance you could post the details of converting a VA box to Debian?
I'm a part-time webmaster, so I use virtual hosting with several different ISPs. My favorite is Pair (www.pair.com). They don't do any dial-up services (read: bandwidth hole), run BSD servers (which I prefer to Linux for web hosting), and I get to let them take care of the details. That way I can take off for the weekend and not worry about my server going down while I'm gone. Yes, I sacrifice some flexibility and power, but my time is valuable. Matt
Antivirus Software?

Maybe the cigarette companies should have tried this tactic.
Yeah: Whoops, sorry, our cigarettes were indeed bad. Here's a $10 coupon on your next purchase.

O.K. If Gore agrees to throw out the votes he got by giving cigarettes to the homeless...

Is that "properly", or "probably"?
The ultimate irony will be if Gore supporters use Buchanan, voice of the "radical right", to claim victory.

I actually prefer Octave, the open source Matlab clone. Check it out at: www.che.wisc.edu/octave/

Which is why it was so ridiculous for Al Gore to be claiming that he and Clinton inherited the "worst economy in 50 years", or some such drivel.
No, they just get elected more often. (At least in the past 30 years.)
