Madculinism got a bad name, that's why. In its pure form it is essentially the same as feminism, so most guys who believe that stuff just call themselves feminists. There are people who describe themselves as masculinists, but they are essentially just misogynists and people who want to act like dicks and justify it.
So, MRAs use a different name to emphasise that they are interested in the rights issues, of which there are some genuine ones. Unfortunately many of them could be described as masculinists, and again people who really care about the issues just call themselves feminists.
This has drifted somewhat - lately the people calling themselves feminists are promoting a "check your privilege" narrative, and are insane. The people calling themselves MRAs are promoting a "women are users" narrative, and are insane. The rest of us call ourselves egalitarian (and are not necessarily sane either, but it varies).
Really, it's an embarrassment to the human race that so many people are willing to self-identify with nutjobs like the authors of jezebel (or similar), or the author of the article in question.
I just got back from it and it is a Mad Max movie. There is a shitload of Mad Max. There are other characters also, so if you watched the first Mad Max, and were upset by there being other characters ("I didn't pay to see Goose!") then maybe don't go.
Wait, AC's are saying this and you extrapolate that to "most slashdot readers"? AC's post GNAA and similar shit too - do you also think that nerds have opinions on homosexual negro men? If not, why not?
?
and people modding them up too.
Browse at -1. Please. I did, and most of the comments derogatory to women are below 0. And you know what, I *want* to believe that you saw posts at 2 or above saying that women are unsuitable for tech, but I haven't seen one. Care to link to one, *even* *if* *AC*? I'm not convinced that you are just repeating the narrative instead of actually reading the comments. I read the comments I didn't find the posts you seem to be talking about.
Maybe it's all Dice employees modding them up to stir the pot, but more likely people with an account who agree.
Also I refuse to take responsibility for people taking comments personally when it's very clear that the comments are directed at the utter fuckwits that fit my insult precisely, and definitely not "all nerds".
So you understand why most posters here are refusing to take responsibility for something some fuckwit AC said about women not belonging in tech, and suddenly they are being told by SJW's that they are misogynistic if they don't see it? That they don't see it because of their privilege? You won't take responsibility for something you actually said, do you not understand why the rest of us won't take responsibility for thing we didn't actually say or do?
Alternately, if the Greeks keep their minimum wage but get off the Euro and make the drachma the official currency again, the value of the drachma will fall until Greek labor is worth buying at the revised exchange rate, if the rate is allowed to float.
Which is precisely why the EU would not want Greece to break away from the Euro. Because Greece is a sovereign nation they can peg the value of the scrip (Drachma) to whatever they want. It will be set artificially high on the day of the break-away and all debts will be considered in Drachma (sovereign nation, remember!). A year later when they finally pay (and the drachma is 1/10th of it's value) the creditors get an effective 1/10th of their debt while the debtor gets to settle their debt for 10c on the Euro.
The value of the labour is not what sets a country's currency value anyway, it's the value of the country.
There's no reason for a "weakest state" to drop out, it just has to stop destroying itself. Alas, as long as the people elect politicians selling fantasies, the destruction will continue.
There's always one reason - with a single currency between a group of countries the weaker economies will always be at a disadvantage *because* they have no control over the money supply. Without control over the money supply you can forget trying to control the economy. This is the primary reason few countries use commodity backed-currencies (gold, silver, etc) - they have no control over the supply of the commodity and hence they cannot control the economy.
No one's ever thought "hey maybe the government and bankers are using fiat currency system is screwing us all and we should go back to the monetary system that we've had for most of recorded history"?
A lot of people will point out the short comings of a precious metal money supply but it has one big advantage: You can't create gold through quantitative easing or other manipulative accounting tricks. You actually have to trade goods and services in order to accumulate it.
That's the problem with gold and silver - you have to actively trade goods and services in order to accumulate it. What happens when technology and human innovation and efficiency proceeds at a rate several orders of magnitudes greater than the mining of gold and silver[1]? With gold/silver you cannot match value against currency in a stable and consistent manner. With fiat money you can.
[1]Like with the mass-production of the transistor, or the last two decades of efficiency improvements due to computers, etc.
It will be interesting to see how Greece gets out of their mess, when they run out of Euros. Pundits are guessing that Greece will issue "scrips", which are a kind of government IOU, and pay government salaries and pensions with them.
The only problem with that is . . . who will want these scrips? Certainly not even the Greeks themselves. They want Euros. And they will try to get rid of their scrips as soon as they can, in exchange for something of value.
Car sales are up now in Greece by something like 40%, as people worry about if their bank accounts will get raided by the government. An automobile is considered as something "valuable". The cruel irony here, is that Greeks prefer to buy German cars . . . exactly the folks who Greeks blame for all their problems. So the Germans are actually benefiting the most from this.
It's a non-problem. If a country cannot control the money supply they are left with few options to control their economy. Using interest rates and money supply a central bank can very strictly control all aspects of their economy (spiraling debt, runaway inflation, etc). Greece does not control their own money supply.
There will always be a weakest state in the EU; almost just by definition alone that weakest state will face trade deficits with the rest of the EU. With no way to control their own currency they will get weaker and weaker unless the rest of the EU keeps them afloat.
Lets say that the EU/doesn't/ keep that weakest state afloat... with no other option the weakest state will eventually be forced to leave the EU and start printing its own money (or scrips, as you referred above to them). This leaves the creditors of that state in the unenviable position of being forced to either forfeit the debt or accept the newly issued money at a certain exchange rate; a rate which will be set artificially high by the state purely to offset as much of the debt as possible.
The best chance the creditors have to get their money back eventually is to ensure that the weakest state remains in the EU... Because, you see, once that weakest state leaves the EU and discharges its debt with worthless scrip, there will be another "weakest state" in the EU! The process will then repeat for that state too, even faster this time because the new weakest-EU-state saw how the previous-weakest-EU-state got a whole lot of money from creditors and didn't have to pay it back!
So, now it's Greece; if Greece leaves EU without fulfilling its debt obligations to Germany, then the new weakest state might be.... Portugal? Someone, at any rate. After two years this Greece process will repeat with that new weakest state. And so on, until only two states are using Euros.
So the EU cannot do anything that will cause a country to leave. They know this. We know this. Anyone who's ever been a creditor knows this. You never let your debtor go bankrupt until after they've settled their debt to you.
After all getting *most* of your money back is better than getting almost nothing (or, in the case of Greece, nothing at all).
If Greece only owed a little then the EU might let them leave in a huff - the scrip they offer might offset that small amount they owe. But Greece owes a lot, more than the EU can afford to write off as a bad debt.
And all this because weak countries will be unable to focus their economies due to having no control over the money supply
TLDR:- There's a saying amongst capitalists, venture or otherwise: If you owe your bank $100,000 and cannot settle it then you have a problem. If you owe your bank $100 million and cannot pay, then it's your bank that has a problem. It's not Greece that has the problem, it's the EU!
The good thing is, though, that male assholes who behave like those who seem to constitute a slashdot majority on topics like these, are probably already outsiders at most attractive
What makes it incredibly funny is most of the arguments are about how woman are unsuitable for staying indoors and typing while men are - your grandpas in their youth would have called you all sissies for doing woman's work.
Who, other than AC's, are actually saying this? The only hate, abuse and insults are coming from the SJW camps. You just called all nerds whiny virgins.
It's very important to read your references before your cite them. From the very first link of the search that you provided(wikipedia, second paragraph):
" In many universities, men's studies is a correlation to women's studies or part of a larger gender studies program, and as such its faculty tends to be sympathetic to, or engaged in, advocacy of feminist politics."
and
"They often discuss the issues surrounding male privilege, "
Certainly doesn't sound like a counterweight to "womens studies".
I forget who said it, but it's literally true that the only instinctive human interface is the nipple.
Everything else is learned.
When you have a kid you realise that this is not universally true. Some newborns have to be coached into using the nipple. Hell, they even have to be taught to sleep:-(
My JNI plugin written in C++ disagrees with you. That's a.so compiled from C, called by Java. If you write functions in C++ as extern "C", then they are link compatible with C and therefore callable by anything.
Are you seriously arguing that if your instruct your C++ compiler to compile code as C, then it will compile code as C? Do you even read what you write? You specifically tell your C++ compiler to treat a piece of code as C; why would you be surprised that it followed your instructions and didn't produce C++ code?
C++ doesn't restrict programmers regarding what they can or cannot use.
C++ doesn't, but every reasonably large project has coding standards that do. I've often wanted to have a language that wouldn't compile unless it met my standards...
Coding standards won't save you. How often have you come across something like this in other's code?
(Might not even be QString getting abused here - might be something vendor provided).
The problem with C++ is not the extra complexity thrown in by the standards committee to save a few keystrokes, it's the opacity of the source code. It requires the user of a library to know implementation details of that library, but the source code using that library will hide every single implementation detail that could fuck you up.
The stl container libraries (for example vector) is used identically to hold complex classes (deep pointers) and to hold PoDs (say, int types). The source code, and all the code around the lines using the vector will look exactly the same, but alas - too many newbies get caught out when they try storing objects with deep pointers and no copy constructors. How can you tell the difference? You can't tell simply by looking at the lines using the vector. You have to look at the lines of code that define the class - very leaky abstraction indeed. So paper over it, tell students to use only references (or pointers) in containers and make sure that using an stl container is only done when you know how the elements you intend to store are implemented.
C++ is filled with invisible gotchas, booby traps for the unwary and multiple poor choices for OO implementation (I blame the backwards compatibility with C for this). Before they add stuff to C++ they should have removed stuff from it; for example the default copy constructor provided by the compiler should make deep copies of objects and not bitwise copies. If that were to be done then no copy constructor would be needed. Another example, why not specify the order of file-scope object construction within multiple compilation units? How about this for a request: if you're going to insist on providing overloaded functions as an option please please please provide the ability to overload using return value - that makes the issue of which cast to use go away.
A few more C++ requests: discard that outdated default promotion rules from C, make the minimum integer magnitude 'int' and do away with 'char'. The compiler is not catching errors in the line va_arg (ap, char) nor can overloading work correctly with both char and int. With decent overloading and a sane container design you don't need stdarg anyway - pass a container (caller can always use static initialisers if they want to).
My greatest disappointment with C++ has to be the QT library. They went ahead and actually changed the language, but kept the most insane parts of it. Let's face it - if your dev environment reads in $FOO source files and spits out C++ source files to a C++ compiler, you may as well make your $FOO language something better than "C++ with extra #defines here and there" . What a missed opportunity by trolltech.
Cobol is in attrition as far as most of the world is concerned. The starvation may take a while, but its occurring. Fortran is link compatible with C
Are you sure? FooBar() and foobar() are different functions in C but the same function in Fortran, so calling foobar() from C in a fortran-compiled libfb.so is probably not going to have the effect you intended if both FooBar() and foobar() are present in libfb.so, if it is even possible at all (name-mangling might be happening).
(My fortran may be a little ancient - do newer fortran compilers make a distinction between case?)
and to many actively maintained simulations are based on it. Fortran will be around for at least as long as C is around. It will take generations of programmers to abandon C++ before that becomes a reality a honestly what takes over will likely be a certified subset of C++ that is considered safer and easier to work with.
Nothing is going to take over from C; it's way too foundational:-(
Whether you are writing C++, Fortran, Java, Python, Perl, Go, Rust, PHP, CLISP, guile, C#,... hell even bash[1]... every single language out there is able to make use of a *.so library, but not all of them can generate one! When it comes to code reuse, C wins hands down. If you want your code/logic/algorithm to be reusable you write it in C.
C++ code can only be called by other C++ code. Same with Java, Python, etc. C code, OTOH, can be called by every single thing living on your system so while your system may only slightly notice if the programs written in other languages go away, your system won't even boot if C code isn't around in the form of system libraries.
Way too foundational to remove, which is a pity as it should have been superceded years ago with something better.
[1] I wrote a small utility that loads and executes a specified function in a specified library with specified arguments. This lets my bash scripts execute anything in the C std. library and whatever other *.so files I have on my system. So from bash I can run sinf/cosf functions, make a few system calls, etc. It's very limited, can only return primitive data types to the caller and needs extensive specification on the command line, but it lets me do the occasional insane thing.
As long as they're happy, it's not their problem, nor is it yours.
If they were happy, would they have created a "men's rights movement" and spend so much time whining on the internet?
What makes you think that the MRA people are the ones playing WoW 15 hours a day? As far as the article is concerned those students aren't out championing a cause because they are in playing videogames and watching porn.
Here's a photo from one of the massive men's rights demonstrations. Do these guys look happy to you?
I'm afraid those people don't look like the males the article were talking about - FTFA: "an in-depth look into the lives of 20,000 young men". It's even in the summary. We're talking about thousands of young men who get their drives satisfied without needing a female.
The young men referred to in the article (and the summary, perhaps you should read it?) aren't complaining at all, AFAICT. It's society that is complaining that these men are mentally checking out. In which case, my point still stands - the only losers are young women.
The men aren't whining. They're just refusing to play the social game.
I guess a man's got to know his limitations.
As long as they're happy, it's not their problem, nor is it yours. It's the women's problem as they have to compete for the fewer males that are left playing the game. That's what a social gender imbalance brings. Extreme imbalances in the far past meant that almost every woman had to share a man with one or more *other* women.
(Of course, perhaps women would go the same route in as many numbers as men are doing in which case it all balances out in the end).
We're seeing a convergence on exactly three languages: C++, C#, and Swift. Every other language is becoming a minor player compared to these Three Giants.
Wait, what? Swift is basically statistical noise at this point. "Dead" languages like ML and Pascal are higher in the tiobe index than swift is. It may become a force in the future but it's nowhere near that now.
Porn is far less rewarding than a divorce? Are you serious?
At least that was my experience. Once I figured out the kind of woman that I shouldn't date and avoided dating them it was a lot easier.
You are making parents point for him. It takes time and effort and talent and money for a man to get multiple different women to agree to sex. All a woman has to do is say "yes". Hence for a man it is a lot of time and effort and talent and money to find the kind of women to date, while for a women its no effort, nor time, nor money. Why wouldn't the man check out of the whole process if he can get satisfied elsewhere?
Be glad it's only porn - prostitutes having been steadily dropping in price due to the the falling number of men who are willing to commit to a relationship. These women who would traditionally traded sex for a male protector now have to fend for themselves. They still trade the sex, but much much cheaper than before.
... most of the comments here scare the sh-t out of me.
A lot of people whining that the world isn't fair to men, are you fucking kidding me? Who gets raped, men? RARELY. And the whole 'so many women falsely accuse men of rape'. That's total fucking bullshit.
Who has to actually carry a child to term, and possibly raise them alone when the man bails, men? Who still are generally underpaid compared the other sex, men. Who runs the vast majority of the governments and writes the laws, men.
I know lots of young egotistical narcissistic young men who think they're fucking so special that if a women rejects their 'charms', suddenly they're a b-tch or a c-nt. Comments above demonstrate the point perfectly.
C'mon people, I'm not promoting self-flagellation, but seriously do you REALLY think that way?
I don't think you need to worry too much about males running after your precious snowflake. The article strongly implies that men now would rather have porn+VG than court your daughter. Enough males do this and there's even more of a male deficit than now - your daughter will likely have to share a man with some other woman (or women) 'cos the men can get their urges fulfilled without having to play this game of stacked decks. A gender imbalance means that one gender will have to work considerably harder to keep a partner. There's a gender imbalance when men don't want to get involved.
Maybe you just really hate feminists and see conspiracies everywhere, or maybe you are just trying to justify your own self destructive behaviour, but either way it's wrong.
Or maybe it's just a standard human response to the environment? Just about any organism would retreat from a toxic environment, why would young men be any different? Society tells them in no uncertain terms that they get less rights in relationships, less reproductive options and once they reproduce they are merely to be used for income. Why the hell would they now want to go ahead and have what *you* and the rest of the attackers call "normal"?
They are getting pleasure from something that harms no one, except for that one little fact that society can no longer use them. As long as they continue getting more pleasure from porn than from real women I see no problem here. when they want real women they will go out and find them, and if they find the demands too great then they will retreat back into their porn/VG world.
The only losers are the women, who will now have to share the few men that *are* available. Like I pointed in a post to *you* many months ago, treating men badly simply to further what you think women want only results in the women who are the losers. Maybe you should suggest a mens-only school, or special bursaries for men only to make more men available for relationships? After all, you suggested similar for women multiple times on this forum.
On the flip side, my divorce has been relatively painless. Initiated by my wife, we agreed the only financial responsibilities we share are the house and my daughter. I pay maintenance for my daughter and we're splitting the house.
It starts off like that - after all you're not even divorced yet and you are claiming that your divorce will be pain-free. Just wait till you get a new woman (or two). Your wife will do everything she can to use your kids against you, up to and including stripping you of all your money so that other women won't be an influence to "her" children.
In real life, that doesn't work when there's weight of circumstantial evidence to cast sufficient suspicion for a search, but insufficient suspicion for a conviction. Real cases are structured like, "We saw evidence of X insufficient to convict, and then obtained a warrant to search for concrete evidence of X, and found evidence suggesting the likely destruction of unknown evidence, and find it sufficiently likely that such evidence were linked to this crime and sufficiently unlikely that such evidence never existed or were evidence of a separate crime," and get a conviction.
I defended myself in real life(tm) not some tv drama. In criminal cases there is no "sufficiently likely", or "on the balance of probability", etc. It's simply "Is there reasonable doubt?" which gets answered "Yes" if all the evidence is circumstantial. The state has to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt so uncorroborated circumstantial evidence is not considered.
Regardless, the court is not allowed to infer a criminals guilt; they have to be convinced. Saying "We're convinced based on these suspicious activities" is just asking for an overturn on appeal and no judge wants his judgement overturned - makes him look incompetent.
(Like I said, I've been arrested, tried and acquitted multiple times. In Real Life, not a TV drama. More than once all I've had to do is sum up by saying "the state has failed to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt.")

Coding standards won't save you. How often have you come across something like this in other's code?
QString qs;
...
char *filename = qs.toStdString().c_str();
Nothing is going to take over from C; it's way too foundational :-(
Whether you are writing C++, Fortran, Java, Python, Perl, Go, Rust, PHP, CLISP, guile, C#, ... hell even bash[1]... every single language out there is able to make use of a *.so library, but not all of them can generate one!
Do these guys look happy to you?
https://manboobz.files.wordpre...
Pascal's not dead. Delphi targets every major hardware platform using Object Pascal and up to 64 bit code too.
In the tiobe list Pascal is listed separately from Delphi. Delphi is higher in ranking than pascal, which itself is higher in ranking than swift.
Then those societies will go into decline.
And good riddance. Those societies who are hellbent on making relationships one-sided get everything that they deserve.
It's also far less rewarding.
If you need any additional evidence that there's a masculinity crisis, just take a look at that single sentence, oft-repeated by beta males.
You poor, pitiful bastard.
You know what's masculine behavior? Not whining like a little pissbaby.
The men aren't whining. They're just refusing to play the social game. Nothing wrong with that.
Women feel the same way about men.
According to this story, it doesn't matter how they feel - the men are apparently happier without them. I don't see the women say that.
