this sucks for me, being a new @home user. i have wanted to stop by the usenet, but i havent had a chance to anytime. now im being punished for something im not even doing... anyway a hapless victim could get around this?
remeber those devices which allow you to do 50 pushups an hour or something while sitting? they work by giveing you small electric shocks that cause your muscles to contract. simply hook the device on up to that toliet/bed/chair and there you go... or maybe we should just use a wearable machine.
now this is what i call an idea. make it completely decentralized with a database system not unlike freenet or something to make sure the domain names were unique. the one problem i see in the design is that using a browser plugin wouldn't be the best way to go about it: other client programs like irc, ftp, ping, etc would be left out. some sort of os module is needed. and anyway, if it never catches on with the masses, so what? the hacker community could still use it.
Another mirroring suggestion: buy a 50 pack of disks, put the files on, mail to 50 random adressess. if at least 10 people did that there would be another 500 copies floating around off-line. it would be interesting to see them try for that.
this sounds somewhat similiar to the eros os, but a bit more "normal"(eros has a very non-unix architecture) and configurable. (eros was built with security in mind, this appears to be easily have any stongpoint you can think of, 'cept maybe speed, if you know how to mold it into that.)
if this os wants to get anywhere in the modern world(in terms of wide-spread use), it would need to have many distributions featuring a particular strong point. otherwise this would end up just another "hacker's os".
