  3. it is not a new and a known fact about toxoplasma on Cat Parasite May Increase Risk of Suicide In Humans · · Score: 1

This virus originates in rodents, and feeds on tissue (dead tissue).

In order to increase the food it developed a trick to attack the area of the brains related to danger/sexual "high".
In rats/mice it cause them to not run away from the cats (there are claims it makes the mice behave as if they are sexually aroused by cats)
In human males it causes lousy risk management, so that people infected are prone to dangerous activities (it appears >60% of donored organs are toxoplasmosis infected),
All of which indicates it attacks complex and subtle parts of nervous system.

So it is no surprise it attacks human females by this being prone to suicide.

    Kinda makes sense.

  4. Re:This just in... on Murdoch Says E-Book Prices Will Kill Paper Books · · Score: 1

The above breakdown is too simplistic. It doesn't imply what is the size of its edition (i.e. how many copies have been produced) The varying cost (i.e. encorporated in each book's copy) is the publisher's printing equipment's materials and work. The rest is constant cost - the marketing, the printing setup, pre-production, Design, and it all is depending on the size. the exact percentage goes down as edition goes up. So the example does not really show a real life breakdown. Also the retailer's price includes storing, shipping/transportation to the retailer's site. and it of course depends on the amount of copies. As to the electronic book - transportation and storage are quite small, as well as the marketing. As to the whole idea of having paper books - it will take some time that the "producers of the horseshoes" (paper books publishers) will stop fighting "producers of the railroads" (ebook publishers), and eventually the paper will be used in very rare cases - like certification documents, notable agreements, etc. And the e-Reader technology will evolve to a point, where people will enjoy it as much as we, the retrogrades enjoy paper books. And having a large library won't take half of one's dining room :) I believe in the progress, and see nothing bad with it. Publishers - ADAPT, or DIE.

  9. 1 idea. on Best Way To Teach Oneself Math? · · Score: 1

Hello. What you need is to demystify the math. There's a great book that does it. I am sorry for being so plain "advertising", but here: http://www.amazon.com/Demathtifying-Demystifying-Mathematics-Ilan-Samson/dp/1858532175/ref=sr_1_1/102-2691669-6697718?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192428885&sr=8-1 It is like advertising to live a healthy life. The only reason it is not being sold so well is because this book is not the main business of the author, so he doesn't invest his talents into its marketing. Just take a look at the reviews, and then get it :). This book is explaining all you have mentioned. According to this book the reasons for not understanding math during the high school are: teacher incompetence in math and teaching, difficult for a child and non unified naming convention, not enough time invested, etc. The author is a physicist by education, and his son is a living proof he knows what he's writing about. Good luck!
