For those that really read the article you already know this is more than 2P co-op that has been done in the past. It allows two people that are experienced to really blow through levels, also it allows veteran gamers to help non veteran gamers play and an apprentice mode type setting. I personally agree with the 'wife story' mentioned already and even more so with parents that want to play with their kids rather than put them in front of a console so they don't have to parent them.
SMG is the showfloor game of what Nintendo is really trying to do with video games - have experienced gamers get a friend (rather than a trash talking deathmatch enemy), get parents involved with their kids, and help expose more people to gaming thus hopefully expanding the market (rather than putting a noose around it with more and more specific expert games).
This IS one reason I am getting the game: I think my son and I will have a great time playing together. If it was anything else I would not be playing mario.
Is that what it means on the box?! Every time I see it I looked at it and said "only episode one? where is two?" I would see different box art. I really didn't know what to think, and I never looked into it. Seems like a confusing model from anyone but those following the gaming industry, specifically these titles. On a related note: It almost sounds like Blizzard. "We are going to charge you an arm and a leg for the first half of the game, and if you want to see how it "sort of ends" you will need to buy the expansion(s)." I quit playing blizzard games for such.
I remember this concept way back when I was growing up. I downloaded Doom and only got to play Episode one until I paid for the other two episodes. It was called shareware. Are we saying we now should pay for shareware? Seems like a lame model designed to nickel and dime. With hundreds of other games out there I'll skip half life for good now until they change their release model.
Because of step 2 and 3. Everyone can get the version with the ads, Crack it and yank out the ads, then share it again.
As this list went on the only thing I could think of is 'they forgot the... 10) Profit!'
