I think I understand where you're coming from. Even though everything is made in China it's still different to buy something from a Chinese owned corporation.
I have a T40 from just before the switch. It's 4 yrs old and still amazing. But heck I'm not gonna buy a Lenovo again. I worked in IT at my university and the T60s broke all the time.
I would go for a Toshiba, Sony, Acer, or Apple.

Maybe I'm just optimistic but I'm very happy such large corporations are standing up to defend fair use. It might be for their gain but it benefits us as well!
I mean, Google mainly just wants youtube to not suck.
