The performance increase is actually more like 25-50% from the feedback I have gotten (I wrote some of the backend scaler code for the G200/G400).
The main part is that the driver relieves the X server from copying the data to the framebuffer on the graphics card and also handles scaling of the image. I have fullscreen DVD running as my desktop background with ~25fps (w/o sound) on my Celeron 400, and that's with a software mpeg2 player that is not very optimized.:-)
I think we will see some interesting stuff in the coming weeks...
