Also here in UK, taught to take foot of gas and let the car coast as much as possible until you need to brake. This is not always possible as there are ALWAYS dickheads that have lead feet and are right up to your bumper (fender) because they want to get to that red light faster. If you can let the car coast then do so, also wastes less energy from not using the brakes until you really need to.

Of course, that kind of driving to traffic lights may be different for [electric] cars with regenerative braking.

  4. Re:When Mandriva was Mandrake... on Mandriva 2011 Out · · Score: 2

Having used Mandrake and Mandriva, the problem with the sound system can be put down to two events. The introduction of KDE4 which was pushed out into a working distro before KDE4 was really ready (and no way back to KDE3 which p'ed off a LOT of users). Then there's the introduction of PulseAudio (although one of the developers was most helpful in tracking down bugs I had found which he pushed out patches into the main distro).

While not the fault of PulseAudio, there are packages that still do not behave nice with it, in particular the hopelessly outdated Skype (who still do not have a 64bit version in static / dynamic - and Linux users don't all use Ubuntu).

I would say the financial wrangling of Mandriva did not help, and the ultimate sacking of key developers who setup Mageia distro may have given a good kick up the backside of Mandriva... all be it too late to save all those that jumped to Mageia.

So in theory, there could be many students who get better grades because there is no more favouritism.

Ironic that Paypal should be looking to starve others of funds, I boycot Paypay for NOT being a bank*, for taking money from users accounts depending on what the weather is, for their disgraceful terms and conditions which affect your privacy and give them the right to do what they like, and generally getting away with scummy anti-competitive practices. The consumer councils here do not want to take on Paypal, and as people might of noticed in the recent news, the UK police are institutionally corrupt.

Two can play the game of cutting off money supply, and from my perspective, I hurt far more companies than Paypal, and have no sympathy for their "only pay" or "must pay" using Paypal", for example Ebay,

Many of these [automatic number plate recognition] cameras are less of an intrusion on privacy than may be feared: the 6,600 ANPR traffic monitoring cameras run by the Highways Agency and Trafficmaster do not transmit numberplates. But according to the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), there are 10,502 ANPR cameras collecting data for police forces - including cameras run by councils, which pass data on - which transmit full registration numbers, and in some cases photos of drivers and passengers, with the former held for two years at the National ANPR Data Centre (NADC).

However, this article suggests that the plates, locations, times, and photographs of people in the cars will "only be kept for 2 years". When have you EVER known government to throw away information it collects on you - EVER???? With storage so cheap, they will keep data forever.

The UK feels like a virtual prison, spied upon everywhere you go. That's not a free society, but they will bullsh*t you that it's for your safety.
