Well from the statistics that I have seen on the regular run of the mill shootings or armed robberies it always seems that the individuals have a long history of lawlessness and have been in and out of jail or prison a number of times, sometimes on various gun crimes. Maybe the solution is harsher punishments for these gateway crimes or doing a better fucking job of rehabbing individuals while they are in prison so that they don't graduate up from petty crime to violent offender. Now granted this won't catch incidents like these mass shooting or the domestic disputes that turn violent, although it may catch some of these, those probably account for a substantially smaller number of the total shootings and gun crimes.
Yes I understand the misconception of the illiterate shooter doing a pray and spay that is not what I was referring to, I was referring to actually aimed shots and a design properties of the barrels themselves. Now both AKs and SKSs use the same twist rate but the AK has a chrome lined barrel while a number of SKSs don't and from what I have read the chrome lining does decrease the accuracy but I am not sure how much or if that is just hearsay. The biggest factor in the accuracy difference is the differing thickness and probably also the barrel length. The SKS has a longer thicker barrel than the AK does so there is less wobble when the shot travels down the barrel as well as providing a longer distance between the front and rear sight. This does have a measurable impact on the accuracy of the rifle. Now when either one is compared to a hunting rifle they both have a thing barrel and but the length of the SKS barrel is about the same as most hunting rifles I have seen of late. Additionally the twist rate that is used for the SKS and AK over stabilize the hunting rounds (the twist rate was set so they can shoot steel core and tracer round, not lead core soft/hollow point hunting rounds) so there may be yawing of the bullet (dependent on how perfectly balanced the bullet) as it travels, while a hunting rifle probably doesn't have a twist rate that would over stabilize the bullet, and even if it probably isn't any were near as much.
A great example of how twist rate and barrel thickness can affect the accuracy of a rifle is to compare the Russian M91/30 to a Finnish M39 both of which fire the same round and use the same receiver. Even though the Finnish M39 rifle has a shorter barrel but it is much thicker and it also has a more relaxed twist rate compared to the Russian M91/30. The Finnish Mosins are know for their incredible accuracy while the Russian ones are good (if you have a rifle that isn't crap which can be a problem) they just don't compare. My Russian ex sniper M91/30 is good (clean barrel, not pitted, sharp lands) but having shot an M39 I really want to get one as I was able to get groups with half the spread and did key hole a few shots with the M39.
Well the place where the AK suffers is in accuracy when compared to something like a lever action.30-30 other than that the 7.62x39 round is an effective deer cartridge is is very comparable to the.30-30. I have used a SKS for deer hunting which shoots the same round as the AK and accuracy wise tends to be better than an AK but still not a good as a proper hunting rifle. Now for medium and big game hunting I mostly use an old Russian sniper rifle (M91/30) as it is more powerful (comparable to the.30-06) and is more accurate than the SKS, but if I am out shooting coyote the SKS (and your AK as well) is an excellent firearm for that task.
So if there is that much leaking out then how much is staying in, or are some ear buds just that shitty. I have heard others' music from a few feet away but if I take my ear buds out and put them a few feet I can barely hear them at the volume I listen to music at.
It is sad fact that when I am at the gym I can hear other people's music over my music when we are both wearing ear buds. That can't be good for the other person.
Those giant mining trucks aren't 7 stories tall only 3 to 4 story range, the shovels they use are probably in the 7 story range. Personally I would love to see a rampaging bucket wheel excavator but those things are really damn slow. The 400 ton (363 metric tons) trucks can really get up and haul ass as they can top out at about 45 mph and have a G.V.W. of 1,375,000 lbs (623,700 kg). As my oldest son (4 years old) put it the first time he was up at Mine View in the Sky "They have a big dump truck and a little dump truck." With big and little being relative terms and meaning the big one was a 240 ton truck and the little one only being a 100 ton truck
This is the kind of analysis I have been wondering about. Since most of the previous studies done in this area don't seem to try to factor thing like the large number of American fat asses or smokers or other choice items. While it appears to do a better job of trying to factor out some of the issues it doesn't look like it manages to do all of them or I might need to read it in more detail. But it looks like there is some good evidence that our health care system does really kind of suck unless you can afford the Mayo Clinic or other premier hospitals.
The TIGER data-set is good for federal roads and even some state level roads but gets a bit dogy at the local level since reality very often doesn't line up with the TIGER data. Buildings and other stuff is basically all user added and when I go on a OSM binge I add lots of other stuff like buildings, fences, bike or foot paths, and just about any thing I can find to map or trace.
I got on board with OSM early on and they don't notify you if someone has changed something you added or had previously changed but for large modifications which some people do for some reason they are easy to spot if you focus on "your" area. I notice this when someone decides that the sidewalks and walking paths in parks are actually bike paths even though there are designated bike paths that are also marked. Good on you for contributing. I contribute a lot as I like to use it as a source against which I check one of my side projects against and would like the project to succeed.
I don't think it will get killed by Wikipedia style complaints as maps seem to be less politically charged, unless you are in India/Pakistan or Japan/China/Korea/Taiwan. You still do get people defacing parts of the map, and there is a fair amount of blatant stupidity but the stupidity factor goes down once a contributor understands what they are doing. I know I made plenty of mistakes early on.
I would add stuff to my neighborhood but at this point I would almost have to start mapping out individual trees. Well it isn't quite that bad but I do go on OSM binges every now and then and have a lot of the buildings (some with full attributes include), roads, power lines, walking paths, other structures, ponds, parks (including equipment, sports field, toilets, and drinking they contain), parking lots, parking isles, etc mapped out already for my town. Areas that I hunt I have public land outlined as well as correcting the roads and adding in the official or unofficial trails that exist. I find it is a better use of my OCDness than acquiring cats or other things.
The problem is that some people don't have pressure balancing valves in their shower, especially in older homes and are too cheep or lazy to get them put in. My house had that problem and it wasn't that hard to fix if you know how to solder copper pipe.
That looks to be exactly what I am looking for. I am not a hardware guy so I didn't even know what to look for on that end and just assumed that I would be stuck looking at something like USB or RS232->USB connections. I think that it might be time to start buying some parts. This is one of things I love about this site is there is probably someone who knows exactly what you need.
They aren't a killer app type of product, they are something that a hobbyist can play around with. At $25 or $35 they are almost disposable and can be the basis for all sorts of projects. They are small, portable, and don't require much power, and cheap. I want to see if I can create a RTK like setup (it won't be realtime) but need to first find some USB GPS receivers that will dump the raw data instead of already processed data.
The marines do amphibious assault and taking a beach head which really isn't covered by the other forces. Granted there is a lot of redundancy between the various armed forces (especially around things that fly) that probably should be eliminated.
Hence my issue with indefinite or lifetime civil commitment. While being technically not jail it effectively is for the person confined against their will. I wouldn't have a problem with it being clearly defined as part of sentencing but the garbage system now is just unconscionable. From my understanding of this issue in Minnesota it hasn't been codified into the law but is an artifact of various court rulings. Since various previous rulings and the law allow civil commitment it can't be considered a punishment and since it legally isn't considered a punishment then having a convicted sex offender civilly committed after they have served their prison term isn't punishment. Since they are not being punished their constitutional rights haven't been violated. Or that is the logic that is used to uphold these. I fear that we in Minnesota will forever lack the political will to correct this, especially after the Dru Sjodin Case.
I read that as "Ass Backed Paper Commodity shit" which if you think about is still a valid description of it and correctly describes what it should have been used for.
Like it or not having a sex offender civilly committed technically isn't considered punishment. I never said I agreed with the rulings that have made this so but I understand them and have written my local reps to get those laws changed but they don't listen.
Maybe I should have been a bit more clear in my attempt to be a smart ass, I was trying to point out the issue with the date as the law banning leaded fuel for on road use was implemented in the 70's. Yes I know that it is still possible to get leaded fuel (either as av-gas, racing fuel, or make your own, yes you can order tetraethyllead from race companies) but that is only for off highway use vehicles like farm equipment, race cars, reciprocating piston engine planes, etc.
Nothing and there in lies the real problem. If you think the dollar is worthless now you haven't seen anything if they do any form of platinum coin seigniorage. The government could do it once but after that who would buy our debt knowing that it could be paid off with a trivial amount of platinum.
You probably have an immune reaction but more severe than most people. Even when I get a flu shot (or any vaccine) I end up feeling kind of crappy for a few days but it sure beats feeling like total crap for about a week when I actually get the flu like I did this year.
How about dumping the air force instead they really are redundant. The marines actually provide a skill set that isn't provided by other branches and I believe is the smallest (not sure if the coast guard is smaller) of the branches. Yet your post still demonstrates that even with those large cuts (looks to be close to 1/3 the military budget) there would still be a substantial deficit.

Sounds like an action they would take.

That may be true, but I bet he really went for the booth babes
That is probably the most insightful comment here.

Except that the Libertarians would have actually let the banks go under.
