After putting in one of the old incandescents that problem seems to have been resolved. Does anyone know why, I would assume that it was some interference from having 5 CFLs in the same fixture but I am not an expert in electronics.

That always seems to be the limiting factor. Can I haul it home, or can I maneuver it through the door. There does seem to be some really sweet sets once you get away from the franchise ones. The set I want to do is Tower Bridge as that just look impressive. My oldest also thinks the technic sets are pretty sweet even if he cant do them (he is only 4) so we do them together and I explain how the different things work. The next project is probably going to be to build a 4'x8' table for doing HO trains on since my oldest is starting to get interested in those as well. I am thinking of building the table next summer and then we can spend the winter working on a detailed layout.

Since you are in the Twin Cities area I would suggest heading up to Brickmania up in Minneapolis. I head up there a few times a year and check out what they have added on to the train displays, which are awesome and quite humorous if you look hard, as well as to see some of their other models like their new WWII landing craft complete with scale amphibious assault craft, tanks, trucks and men. They even have some one off sets they created (one of the members there had one of his one off sets turned into a real Lego set) that you can buy. They have some tubs of assorted Legos out for kids to build with and a wooden ramp to race Lego vehicles down. It is free but I always toss some money in the donation bin as I like taking my kids there.

Granted these are larger sets targeted towards older kids but there still is the giant tub of basic legos. It seems every few years there is a story about Lego selling out. Point is they have managed to stay relevant by selling out in some areas (Harry Potter, Sponge Bob, Star Wars, etc) while still maintaining the core with their town, technic, basic, castle Legos, etc. I doubt they will ever create sets like the yellow castle, original Kings Castle, Knight's Castle that I had when I was little (and still have) but my oldest really wants the Lego City Mine set and Mining Truck for Christmas and they look to be the good kind of Legos with lots of little bricks to assemble.

Neither of them are interested in the branded tie in sets but the oldest one really wants all of the City Mining themed ones, especially the Mine and Mining Truck. We do keep the instructions as they will want to build the original sets from time to time but that usually is just the starting point. I am glad I kept all of my Legos from when I was young.

Yes I have firearms and yes I am a US citizen but people in this country seem to worship the damn things even though they are basically a metal tube with plastic or wood handles. I would love for there to be some basic proficiency required for someone to own a firearm but I doubt that would ever happen. I have seen people who don't know how to shoot, handle, clean or care for their firearms and they really are a danger to themselves and others.

The lessening of the restrictions on assault weapons happened under the previous president Bush (I think less than 10 years ago probably only 8 or so). The restrictions that govern actual assault rifles have been the same since about 1986 which is the newest weapon that a citizen can own that has fully automatic or selective fire capabilities. The assault weapons ban that expired during Bush 43's term was put in place by Clinton but didn't ban semi automatic rifles but banned certain semiautomatic rifles that had specific cosmetic features. The only notable thing that is really applicable to these shootings that the assault weapons ban did was ban new high capacity clips but old high cap clips were just fine.

The Target and FleetFarm cards were recent acquisitions as those were the stores that were visited frequently with a fair amount of money spent and since they offer 5% cash back over Discover's standard 1% it became worthwhile to get their store credit cards. When I get the statement in the mail for each I go and pay off the current outstanding balance and as an added bonus they are due about the same time as all the other household bills so they all get paid online at the same time. We run everything through one of the credit cards and since my household manages our credit cards provide a benefit to us.

But in the state of Minnesota the .223 is a legal big game cartridge and you can legally take everything up to moose with it. To put it in perspective a .30-30 or 7.62x39 are considered effective for taking things up to about the size of a black bear and those rounds are larger diameter and carry about 50% more energy than the .223 and those are still considered on the weak side for that sized game. The regulations for legal big game cartridges are:
It is at least .220 caliber and has center fire ignition
It is loaded only with single projectile ammunition
The projectile used has a soft point or is an expanding bullet type
So .223 would qualify. Granted I would question it's effectivenes against even something the size of a white tail deer it is none the less a legal cartridge. On the other hand .223 is an effective small game/varmint round and rabbits are good eating.

  18. Re:And yet... on 27 Reported Killed In Connecticut Elementary School Shooting · · Score: 1

In most cases a selective fire assault rifle (or machine gun) is banned from someone owning it due to the difficulty in legally acquiring one. While possible to legally posses one you need to go through a detailed federal background check, then pay the federal tax stamp, then find one of the very limited few for sale, then pay the very high amount it will cost. Also the weapon you will be buying will not be new as it is only legal for civilians to own are ones that were made before 1986 (I forget if that date also applies to imported ones or if imports have an earlier date). Or did you mean a semi automatic rifle which was classified as an "assault weapon" under the now expired assault weapons ban based solely based off of cosmetic features. For example a M1 Garand was not banned under the assault weapons ban but an SKS was. When it comes to functional features they were very similar:
    Both were semi automatic rifles
    Both had a fixed magizine
Both were reloaded with charger clips
The M1 Garand held 8 rounds while the SKS held 10
The M1 Garand fired a substantially more powerful round than the SKS
The M1 Garand has better range than the SKS
The M1 Garand is more accurate than the SKS
The SKS has a bayonet lug
The SKS was not made in the US
The SKS kind of looks like an AK (the AK came after by about 2 years)

Also there was a rather interesting supreme court case from 1939 which would seem to indicate that an individual is constitutionally allowed to own things that you mentioned to bring it to the absurd. Specifically the Miller case where the US government argued that the second amendment only protected ownership by individuals of weapons that could be used by an organized militia. The court ruled in favor of the government (because the plaintiff had died ) but non the less there is legal precedent for individual ownership of those types of weapons. Also for the record sawed off shotguns were used by the military during WWI and were excellent weapons for fighting in trenches, hence trench guns.

Ask the Minnesota legislature and voters as we had a state constitutional amendment to require photo ID that failed. If one wanted to vote fraudulently in my state it is exceedingly easy. Minnesota has same day registration at the polling place. Now to register to vote same day at the polling place you need to either provide:
    1. A valid photo ID show that you live in the precinct
    2. A valid utility bill (only certain ones are allowed) from the last 60 days showing you live in the precinct
    3. Have someone who already lives in the precinct and is registered to vote vouch that you do live in the precinct and are legally allowed to vote.

This system is ripe for abuse especially using the second and third options since a voter doing same day registration doesn't cast a provisional ballot but a regular one. This system is also makes it very difficult to catch someone voting fraudulently using one of the above options.
