Actually, he uses a 2nd coputer IIRC, only to compile the most basic packages. But the primary system is made from scratch, just by downloading the sources from the internet.
Yes, its very good to see SGI lay the ground for 3D hardware accelarated graphics (even if theyre not the first ones in this area).
With this, Creative supporting their fine SBLive! and HP/VALinux starting to improve printing (see story below) the infrastructure for desktop applications and home use gets laid down. It seems there is a bright future for penguins on computers;-).
Perl is not THE solution for everything, but for a lot of things. It is really great for system management and web stuff. Its also good for small programs doing just one special thing (see "rapid prototyping"). Because these are the things i do (i do not write huge...-applications), Perl is my language.
Of course, its not easy to learn, but OReilly books help alot:-). I wish i will get only a quarter as skillfull as Larry or Tom.
Please keep in mind that its not their first mistake in licensing. Yes, we should be polite, but if Corel carries on this way, we should consider a change of our opinion. Have an eye on it.

The message is not "Kernel 2.4.0 comes out on 2nd February".
So, can Microsoft disturb our party ? No, i dont think so. Cheers, wumpie
