They're not religions, political parties, families, etc.

Can you explain why Heinz ketchup sell more than any other ketchup? Does it really taste better or is it just brand loyalty? Maybe people buy what their parents bought because that's their model for the world. Kinda like the way most children practice the religion of their parents.

And you call it bullshit but the parallels are staring you in the face.

I'm going to get called for trolling here but I'm not; I'm legitimately confused.

I thought ie meant "for example". So in the previous comment, numbski states that Madden would be the "best" football game, for example, the only football game.
Is this a proper use of the ie? Or would something like aka be more appropriate?

    Oh, and EA sucks btw.

This is going to sound cynical and perhaps it is.

I can imagine a world in my lifetime where machines do all the jobs that ppl don't want to do so the most untrained will be without means to survive (no job = no food). Then I can see someone suggestion that these ppl who are otherwise unable to benifit society will be put in gyms and produce electricity all day. I'm aware that it won't produce net power (energy_(food to feed/shelter/etc) - energy_(produced from gyms) >> 0).

But when society hits that point, what are you going to do with those ppl?

While your points are well made, there's something I don't understand.

What does frog lineage and land masses have to do with African Swallows? And more important, what would be the air-speed velocity of said swallow ladened with a bowling ball sized toad?

Wiki doesn't even know the true origin of the word and while I joke about the correctness of wiki, when it comes to pop culture and memes, there is no better source than a million dorks the world over pouring their hobbies into a database.

  7. Re:Body Mass Index Not a Measure of Obesity on Causes of Death Linked To Weight · · Score: 1

It was my understanding that BMI wasn't necessarily a way to tell how fat a person is but to determine how much stress that weight is putting on that person's body.

Even if you're 2% body fat, your joints, heart, etc. have to work harder to maintain your weight regardless of whether that weight is primarily fat or muscle. And that's why there have been links shown between completive body building and heart disease.

Besides, the article says that maybe you shouldn't be concerned about BMI if you're healthy which is exactly the point you seem to be making.
Dr. Gail, though, had some advice, which, he said, is his personal opinion as a physician and researcher: "If you are in the pink and feeling well and getting a good amount of exercise and if your doctor is very happy with your lab values and other test results, then I am not sure there is any urgency to change your weight."

I like the idea, it's nifty but I see at least one major flaw in it.

This would cause a circle of death above the power plant. Nothing could fly there (birds, planes, etc.) without getting chopped to pieces by extremely high speed wires flying about. I know some people who have experience with wind farms and they always mention the problems with birds - and yes, I've heard the statistics on these numbers but look a little closer and with a grain of salt - so uncontrolled, high speed wires in my opinion are far less green than modern coal plants.

I perceive copy right law as just in certain cases and am not making any profit from the enforced scarcity that you mention.

Look at it this way: an artist should be given the right to determine how, when and where his/her art is displayed. If that artist wants to sell out and take a check from the man, that's their right.

Now, I believe that the judgment is excessive and hope that she is able to appeal and have the judgment reduced but just because this example shows abuse in the system doesn't mean that the system should be thrown out. It just means that the system needs to be fixed.
