Exactly. It's the industry's responsibility to determine when a business model is no longer working and adapt to the world around them. It's so hard to put a value on art anyways.
www.crossfit.com Think of it as an Open Source movement to the workout world. Most of the routines you can do in your own home with some free weights and a pull-up bar.
If they want to reduce server load why don't they take a hint from Linux. I know it's almost unheard of that Microsoft would take advice from an Open Source community of users, but still they chould give it a go. What I'm talking about of course is the way many Linux distros use Torrents to get their.iso's out there without large strain on their servers. This way Microsoft will reduce load on their servers and fixes will get out alot easier instead on a swarm rush on every patch Tuesday.
I actually had something very similar happen to me while i was in high school. I was in a typing class doing my excel work and the program locked up on me (as it sometimes does) and being a somewhat tech savvy student at the time i knew this super elite way to kill hanging programs. I guess i'll give up the secret, you hold down Ctrl+Alt+Del and get what is call the Task Manager where you can then end the "hanging" process. My teacher was so clueless about computers that she freaked out thinking i was hacking it or something and told me to stop what i was doing. I tried to explain the situation to which she said to restart the entire machine. I tried to explain that this was not necessary upon which she gave me detention. If schools hire teachers for computer classes they should know something about computers and software. Idiots.
i'm a code monkey much as yourself. However, being a contractor it doesn't matter to me if the company i'm contracted through could get screwed because another developer stole some code. That was for full disclosure.
also, if it's in a place such as a public forum (one you don't have to pay to be a part of, or must have ieee membership to participate in) if all you need to post is an email address and a password then it's in the public domain, and unless the person posting put some restriction on it it's free game.
You may want to check that poster's profile maybe he put something in there that would umbrella all his posts under some kind of agreement. But again, it there's nothing then it's up for grabs. I wouldn't raise too much hell about it especially being a new hire. (calling out your boss isn't the best idea)
I'm a Software Developer. My parents never talked about Math or Science to me, they didn't read to me much either. However, I think I have a very creative mind and I love to do many things in the arts. Such as playing music, writing stories, and creating my own desktop wallpapers using photos and the like.
When I was young there was a television show that aired on Discovery early Saturday mornings called Movie Magic. The show was about movie special effects: blue screens, CGI, motion capture, ect. I watched that show like it was my religion and it defiantly gave me a huge interest in computers and software.
Later I determined that using software someone else made to do all that didn't appeal to me; I really wanted to make that software. I was lucky that I found something that could combine my artistic and creative talents with science and math.
The truth is you can't get every kid interested in science and mathematics. There are a few out there that you can steer, find those kids and give them all the information you can about what kind of life they can have.

sounds like another "it's not a bug, it's a feature" argument to me.
