  1. The Idiot Market Cause of Bioshock Problems on BioShock Review · · Score: 0, Troll

The main reason that people are so irritated with the game, in my opinion, is spite for casual gamers. Casual gamers want games to be more like movies. What I mean by that is that they want constant forward motion, and they don't want to have to think too much. A lot of these people consider any sort of challenge work. If this game were made of the PC only, for serious gamers, there wouldn't be all these concessions. It's sad to see potential lost because companies want to make more money off lowest common denominator consumers. Same reason why most movies and all other popular art is bad. It's made to appeal to people with 8th grade educations, seriously. If thing weren't so simplistic all the idiots of the world would label things boring and they wouldn't sell. Something that people don't talk about is that people with a 100 IQ, which is what the average is, are pretty god damn dumb, then think about the other huge segment below 100. And we wonder why democracy doesn't work better.

Oh nonsense, the threat from perverts and stalkers finding you or your children on the internet is so negligible that social service organizations around the country have found it impossible to compile any statistics on the subject. The cases have been so few and far between that the only ones that can be found are the ones that have had major news coverage. Seriously. There's an interesting letter about this in The Atlantic this month. I can only assume that the threat from mesh networks would be far lower. In any case, don't be such a pussy, take some risks in your life, and let your kids do the same. For example, I think one of the biggest problems in this country is that adults are afraid to interact with children that aren't their own, because they are afraid of how others will perceive them. What's worse, a world where children have no strong role models other then their parents and celebrities, or a world where a few kids get molested once in a great while. I know that's putting it rather bluntly, but you have to take the good with the bad. Humans are resilient creatures.

I don't discount Linux entirely, as I've said, I've never had it installed on my own computer. At the same time I've never seen a need to make a switch. A Vista upgrade cost, what, $199? It's not as though it's like replacing the transmission in your car. I personally have never had problems with Windows. If I ran Linux I'd imagine I have to sit and tweek things to get programs to work correctly. As for the processing power needed to run Vista, is it really that outlandish? Perhaps it was a little high for when it was first released but, it's not any more. Vista runs like butter with 2 gigs of ram and a duel core processor. Considering what will be the baseline system in a few years when Vista gets to the end of its life I think that's totally within reason. If you want to talk about a rotten company talk about Apple. I find OS X maddenly restrictive. It's Apples way or the highway.

I'll say this I use my computer a lot. The way my desktop looks is a major part of my everyday reality. An organized visually appealing desktop effects my mood a great deal. I went out and bought Vista within the first week for that reason alone. In a certain way it began a new era in my life.

Yeah I agree they have every right to block users who block ads. We'll see what effect that has on the popularity of the site. What percentage of people are using ad blockers? I have a pop-up blocker, I believe, but other then that don't do anything. I am guessing 90% of people don't. Web sites make more money allowing users who block ads then they would otherwise because adblockers still help to spread the popularity of the site to the great majority of people who don't use adblocking software. Until there are adblocking usage statistics available I think this is a pointless conversation.

Send their kids to college... Come on... That's the most irritating justification I can think of for your position. Why not just go ahead and make it people want to pay for their dying mothers cancer treatment. If you want to live in a market free from regulations, as you apparently do, then you have to accept people blocking ads as part of that. Not allowing it would be giving one side an unfair advantage. The owners of web sites have every right to stop posting new content to spite the ad blocking consumers.
