Perhaps you should make a webpage about creating Linux for your device, or get involved in Sourceforge.net. I have a page up for my iPhone, basically how to save money, but now that I have those practices in place I wanna start a site and/or foundation to get Linux on the iPhone, the iPod Linux guys don't wanna touch it. Oh the site for my phone is www.hartdeveolpents.com/iphone/ let me know what you think about a website for your device, I wouldn't mind helping you out.

Why not have Linux on the Cell phone and every other device, how exciting and useful will it be that your computer and cell phone and game console and your car etc etc, all run the same OS and can easily communicate between each other. Just image a iPhone like device without the tyranny of iTunes, drag and drop, customizable settings, you could upload text conversation, or actual audio conversation, and there would be a piece of software for anything and everything you would ever want to do on a cell phone!

I am pretty frustrated with my iPhone in a lot ways, and really hope that there will be a linux replacement for the firmware, cause I don't want to be threatened (me phone is unlocked) every time there is an update for a few new little tiny things.

I disliked AT&T's service so bad that I got my phoned hacked and now have t-mobile. I am saving so much money that I bought three geek shirts and a firefox cap to show support for things that are not trying to pry money out of my hands. I also got a 200 dollar rebate from the store even though I was two days too early...... My iPhone started out hellish and ended up great. Also of has taught me that I still need to implement and advertise open source software.

my laptop is a AMD, but the built in wireless card is broadcom and is a beast to get running with Linux, I know I am a hypocrite when I buy anything Apple and at the same time try to support Open Source...BUT I did buy a FireFox Hat from the mozilla website, and I get free stickers with it! What I hope to see is that one Open Source OS can load onto EVERY piece of hardware that can be ran by software, so that if I hook up a crazy cool mp3, toaster, tv remote, into my computer the (let's say)Linux OS can tell what it is and give it the Linux kernal that can run on it and take advantage of all the hardware is physically capable of!

I dunno, there should be a "no-nonsense" guide to Apple products, guides that do not have marketing integrated into them, also a list of known frustrations and "work-a-rounds" for those frustrations.

No, you gotta play tricks to have things setup the way you want. I mean I gotta setup my computer to have the files in a way that makes sense to me, then I gotta configure iTunes and then I gotta configure the iPhone, good crap on a stick aren't these technologies suppose to be saving us time?

I will admit I was extremely impatient, yes the OpenMoko looks like it will rock up all the way. But I was carrying a palm pilot, phone and iPod, I needed music to get through work, the calendar to remember anything, and the phone goes without saying. All that and the moko isn't out for the normal consumer yet, not that I would love to code and hack away, I just don't have the time, and the whole point of this device is to say time and make things easier by combining technology......Besides how wonderful would it be to flaunt Linux on the iphone to Apple(the new wanna be Microsoft)? What would be wicked awesome would be getting the Openmoko OS on the iPhone!

Is there somewhere I can donate $100 to the Linux on the iPhone project?

Yes that is my point. You see how aggressive MS was about making money off Vista, they have marketing at the heart of all their plans, then I hear from a podcast that they (Microsoft) will create their own PC and the xbox and xbox 360 was a testing to do just that....so people are like "Holy cow MS will control the hardware and software! We are all screwed!" WELL Apple has done that and refused to do anything other than that from the beginning, if you ever used iTunes and got frustrated (and if you haven't been frustrated then I doubt if you used iTunes) you long for the application that will let you drag and drop files for your music. Apple will not under a gun, under the prospect of having their CEO fired, under the direction of Higher beings or Vulcans, give you that application! So I am willing to look past the faults of Ubuntu cause in the end things will be better than Mac OS X, or any apple product, or MS product can ever hope to be.
