I was starting my own tirade, but I see you've done it nicely (maybe my karma will remain neutral)! At first, I was excited so I downloaded some of cK-12's texts (suggest anyone doing so scan for TH). My impression is that contest reviewers had a checklist but were not qualified to review the content, because they didn't seem to notice some obvious things missing: the single variable calculus text from cK-12 has no bibliography, no index and it's source of authority seems to be Wikipedia (!).

The 520 floating bridge was not a good example. Replacing it would defer the jam by about 10 minutes (the approximate time to fill additional lanes before the strangled highways connecting it have their final triumph).

It's amazing that enterprises fail, simply by failing to provide what customers want (in the USA, it's how auto manufacturers fail and -- by doing opposite -- coffee shop chains succeed). But back to the subject: suggest you ask the manufacturer if you can even get a repair, regardless of warranty (good luck with that). Even if a replacement part is available, chances are strong it will fail in the same way, unless manufacturer can explain how quality problem has been resolved.
