  1. Re:Vista and court on Ballmer Ordered To Testify In 'Vista Capable' Case · · Score: 1

My point was that Intel misled as much as everyone else did. Intel should have released a WDDM driver for 915G/GM. There is a WDDM S3 driver and the S3 sucks ass. Lame Intel!

Whose suing Intel for their locked down onboard video adapters -- when it was proven that they can run Aero in Vista Betas (but the driver capability was later removed)? Thats the lawsuit that should have happened!

  3. As a regular php dev on PHP5 CMS Framework Development · · Score: 2, Insightful

Since I receive many contracts from clients wanting web work done I'm prone to suggesting the use of Joomla or some other OpenSource project because I know that these projects will work for most applications and employers don't want to spend $5000 for a custom application, they want to spend $500 for a custom template. However, recently I've been working on several larger sites and have been dealing with these 'hacker' groups on a daily basis and I find the security vulnerabilities being exploited in not only Open CMS systems but also bulletin boards (that you have to buy) and so on. So I've gone back coding from scratch because it is truly the only way to secure a good system in PHP. Custom variables =)

  4. Model builders.... maybe? on Do Women Write Better Code? · · Score: 1

Back in our days of undergrad we gathered up a group of women and men from various disciplines on campus that were said to be good developers to participate in a double-blind experiment where results of model building vs. console coding were compared. The tasks presented could be accomplished from using visual shape models and from console development. The results were obvious. Women were always more successful than men using models. Men were always more successful on the console with the cursor. Thinking about it women are more visual creatures (literally, men are typically less adept to colors, in fact most men have some color blindness as we know). With an array of shapes of many colors the women were able to adapt quickly and build out even the most complex models with ease. I believe the results were published.

  5. Re:Bye bye books on 2nd Generation "$100 Laptop" Will Be an E-Book Reader · · Score: 1

After working as an IT admin for a small publishing house I've come to realize that producing these ebooks are not as simple of a process as some people might think. In fact I find the production of ebooks out weighs the benefit. Most ebooks are developed from a production book and they are stripped down (lower resolution images mostly). There is little excuse while publishing houses do not produce more ebooks for the schools and Universities other than the fact that they are scared that no one will buy the ebook at cost of production ($100 on average for a typical science text book) and will likely just share one legal copy with everyone. There is no big plan in terms of ebook readers and I think the publishing industry is actually run by a bunch of anti-tech dummies that don't know a pdf from a word document. These people are happy with the system they created and are certainly not interested in producing less paper books that saves trees, not that having a billion more laptops running in all schools across North America is going to do much more good for the environment (if anything at all). Personally I find ebooks annoying to read. I'm a geek and I like screens, but reading an ebook with a back light on just leaves me with a headache. There is nothing comparable to picking up a book and flipping pages. I'm almost inclined to say that books are still needed, especially in a University setting. Another suggestion by a poser geek in administration... Going terribly wrong.

I had to comment on this one. The guy posts blogs. Are you saying Web 2.0 (aka blog spotter) is more important than a .NET savy desktop engineer =) Also not to mention this but has anyone noticed all of the people leaving Google? Lets compare a blogger leaving to the CIO of the company?
