  1. Re:Safety Critical on Toyota Pedal Issue Highlights Move To Electronics · · Score: 0

Yea, you don't know much about cars. The "Emergency break" engages your rear brakes only. It won't stop you at all if you're giving the car any kind of gas. The emergancy break is a manual cable system for engaging the rear breaks if the normal hydrolic system fails. Next time you're in your car, turn on your emergancy break and try to drive away. You'll notice that, while it may lurch a bit, it will work just fine. In fact, once you get up to 20mph or so you cant even tell its on other than the smell of your breaks burning up.

While I agree that pollution is bad, and that if we keep on burning up tons of fossil fuels with no regard to the environment something terrible is bound to happen... I still think scientist don't have a fucking clue when it comes to the climate and everything I've ever seen in regards to global warming has been complete bullshit when you even make a cursory review of what the supposed science is based on. It's just another excuse for hippies to try and stop progress because they think we'd all be better off living like little house on the prairie and dieing from cholera when you're 9 because vaccines might cause cancer when you're 90.

Right now you're a programmer, writing some of the most popular games on the market and building a reputation for yourself that will land you a job anywhere you want in the future. My guess is most of these guys love putting in these kind of hours doing this sort of things and their excuse to their wives is "The company makes me do it!!"

Tax the fuck out of you and hold onto power. They have no other goal.

Harm US/China relations? We hate China... China hates us. They are stealing our jobs, subverting our government, having into our military instillation and business systems... stealing our intilectual property, subverting our monetary system by artificially manipulating their currency. They're dumping toxins into the air and water, not to mention into the toys and babyfood they sell us. They financially support North Korea, one of the countrys most likely to be involved in whatever event eventually destroys the world. How on earth could we do anything to harm relations with China? And how could access to the internet somehow make their citizens any more aware of what a bunch of asshats their government officials are?

  8. Very simple on How Do You Measure a Game's Worth? · · Score: 1

It's simple: 1. You average decent game that will give the acerage gamer at least several months of enjoyment (Example: Team Fortress 2): $50 2. Any game that didn't turn out quite right... or a game that is just a mod of another game (Example: Soldier of Fortune series): $30 3. All Major MMOs (Example: WOW, LOTRO, EVE): FREE!!! With a $15 monthly sub... these games do not need a barrier to players even starting them when the player knows they will only get 30days of play out of the game right out of the box. They are idiots for charging for the box) Micro transactions kill your player base eventually and keep away really dedicated players. Stop trying to milk us. They may make each player worth more but those players will start leaving in greater and greater numbers when they get sick of the treatment. 4. Indie MMOs: (Example: Wurm) Free to play, with special severs for those of us that want more that cost $8/month to play or so. If this amount of money isn't enough to pay the bills then you either A. Spent to much making the game or B. Made a game that sucks and you don't have enough player base. In most cases both are true.

  12. lame on MIT Offers Picture-Centric Programming To the Masses With Sikuli · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is the same sort of scripting you can do with many already existing languages. Autohotkey for example. The only new feature would be the ability to copy the screenshot directly into the program as apposed to taking it outside the program and referencing the file directly. I'd say that this scripting language is actually weaker because of it. As far as using this inside a game... they are already hardened against this sort of thing. For example, next time you're in EVE look at the buttons you use. They are semi-transparent. This is not just for aesthetics. If you take a screenshot of the button, and then change your camera angle the button looks different because what's behind it is different. That doesn't mean you can't script inside EVE, you just have to be a lot more clever than using a script to click on a static image of the gui. This language would be almost completely useless in any GUI that has any transparency. Which I'd think would include Vista, Win7 and even Macs with the right stuff turned on.

I never heard from them again. I think that the people that are getting nailed are the ones talking to Direct TV. DON'T. Don't ever talk to Direct TV. I just canceled my Direct TV service and switched to dish. (yes, I was a paying customer) When asked why I was canceling I said "Because you are trying to extort $20,000 from me" and the CSR just said "Oh... well that's a good reason!"
