May be its the modern men that are idiots. Why would you want to build an Inca bridge with Mexican fibers? May be they've should have gone to Peru to get their bridge fibers.

  2. Re:Supermassive black holes on Monster Black Hole Busts Theory · · Score: 1

It sounds to me like they can not get their algorithms and model approximations to form a black hole larger than 10 solar masses. This does not mean that they do not exist, just that their computer models can't do them. Kind of like all the super nova models that can't explode. We know that they explode, its just that the models they used are too coarse of an approximation.

It's not the first time the airforce has talked of these batteries. The russian actually got to the testing stage, with their planes and other military units. They were not quite portable, the idea was to try to give energy independance to plane just like submarines. However, plane crashes with very active isotopes, although not a political problem in the USSR, can be an actual health hazard. Weight was also a problem, since the actual place has to take of. The problem is that somebody has to clean those crashes eventually.

  4. Re:Location, Location, Location on First New Nuclear Plant in US in 30 years · · Score: 1

The location argument also backfires against wind power. Most of the wind power is generated in western Texas, and becomes very expensive (energy wise, and hence money wise) to transport it to the major cities of Texas. STP is close to Houston and should meet the energy growth of that metropolitan area. Wind is great, and I'm glad texas is making part of the energy portfolio; but its not totally reliable and always available. It's funny that the most "dirty" and antiglobal warming state has surpaced California in wind generation. Texas is planning on building 13 new reactors compared to the current 4 in Texas and 103 in the US, that is a hell of an investment. Plus, they are considerably cleaner than the current coal plants. The problem is going to be on the energy crunch between now and 2014.

Question. What are they going to use to do the radiography of the 787? They can't use neutrons they won't go through the low z materials. Are they ever cocerned with neutron activation with eigther aluminum, or composite wings. Just want to know, so that next time I fly, I know if I should pack a lead shield to protect my nads from the deadly radiation (as abc would say) :D I guess the cosmic ray were going to get me anyways :(
