maybe it's just my area, but in the Petersburg area of Virginia (US) I can tell who's using a mobile by the first three numbers (though admittedly I haven't memorized the first three digits of all the carriers, they are different from the first three digits of the landlines)

so, there's the area code (804) and then the seven digit number. for Verizon in this area, the first three digits of the seven digit number can be 586, 731, etc. (1-804-586-XXXX)

    the local numbers will start with 991, 526, 732, 861, etc. (1-804-526-XXXX)

    at least that's my understanding.

Or they could have gone to Wal*Mart exclusively for this item. The Ubuntu forums have exploded over this, and there are several people who have bought the product for friends or family. The torrent for gOS had quite a few seeders when I downloaded it (didn't like it). Took less than 45 minutes, more like 30.

actually, the evidence seems to suggest that advanced users of windows have a more difficult time switching than novice users. A novice is used to clicking through menus and trying to figure out the buttons, whereas a more experienced user already knows shortcuts and practiced movements. So, given a stable install and a novice-friendly distro, grandma may actually be more successful with Linux than the experienced gamer just my $0.02 would make a great study, any graduate students in need of a thesis?

well, when I try to play WMAs in Ubuntu, I get a message asking if I want it to search the repositories and automatically download and install the necessary packages. It explains the difference between open and proprietary, and prior to install has you accept an agreement that you are using it for "research purposes." Quick and painless.
