I often think this to myself on Slashdot these days. There's a rather high ambivalence towards new tech here. Some of it rather warranted. Sometimes I feel like most of/. wishes it was still 1995.
Same here, though they did claim to have a reason for deactivating my account.
They told me I had been cheating -- which is odd given I had a dialup connection (which makes Steam all the more fun) and had never played a multiplayer session as a result of said dialup connection.
They told me it was impossible for my account to have been compromised and if I wanted to play, I should go out and buy the games all over again.
You could use Blender, and if you dislike Blender's interface for modeling, you can at least import a Sketchup model through a third party import script (don't have the link at the moment, sorry) and export as.OBJ, or any other of the many formats Blender supports exporting to.
