It is surprising that the best article on KCG's trades was not shared yet. Check out http://www.nanex.net/aqck2/3522.html for a fascinating look at the trades. Chart 3 shows a millisecond interval chart with around 40 trades happening in under a second, each buying at the offer and immediately selling at the bid. As Nanex put it "you now have a system that's very efficient at burning money".
Leonard: We need to widen our circle.
Sheldon: I have a very wide circle. I have 212 friends on myspace.
Leonard: Yes, and you've never met one of them.
Sheldon: That's the beauty of it.
Their phone would ring too. This service is supposed to avoid that.
I just tested out SlyDial against my cell phone and the phone did ring once. The caller ID also revealed the number as the one I used to call SlyDial. Not so sly after all.
They are not doing it to improve safety, they are doing it to provide the perception of safety. ... and that sentiment is best described by Sir Humphrey Appleby in this clip.
This has been my experience as well. All they need is cable modem's MAC address. What's annoying is that their billing site had some issues with Firefox (because of not doing a redirect after login). One could work around it by manually refreshing the page after a few seconds. However of late (last two billing cycles), it's no longer working with Firefox.
This page sorta gives out phonenumbers to some important people... Wonder if/when they'll take it down... Or have the numbers been faked? http://www.grandcentral.com/home/one_addressbook They are not the phone numbers of the individuals listed. The number attributed to Jeff Bezos is 206-266-1000 is Amazon.com's local phone number in Seattle. The number attributed to Sergey Brinn 650-253-0000 is Google's local phone number in Mountain View. The next two with 555 are fake numbers.
Apple clearly spent a lot on development of the device and on the software especially... not to mention all of the prime-time ads. I bet it will take a while before those costs are covered and they start raking in the big bucks with the $380 'mark-up'. Well, Apple's hoping to sell 10 million iPhones by 2008 which only gets them a 1% share of the mobile phone market. Let's say the parts cost $220 exactly as per the Business Week article. Then Apple's making 10 million phone X $300/phone approx. = $3 billion (yes, billion with a b). Even if they spend a couple of billion (that's a high end estimate) on R&D, software development, advertising, packaging, shipping, etc. they are going to make a cool billion in profits.
The Intel presentation clarifies this to some extent. Look at slide 7. The core is simply a compute element with a router. They have put stacked memory as future implementation. Also here's Intel's Teraflop site.
It didn't use to be (apart from both of them having C-related syntax and Interweb-related hype), but it is now if you're using Firefox. For example, the following works:
gmail also has a hosted solution. you sign up, point your dns to gmail's mail servers, and can have all your email go through email. You can even create accounts, mailing lists, etc. Right now they appear to be limiting me to 25 users per domain. Works really well. you can pop3 off their system too.
Wow - that's cool! I didn't know about Google's free hosted apps for domains. For those looking to signup, check out https://www.google.com/a/

Well, I like KDE's integration of Kontact, Kmail, Konqueror, Kopete, Akregator, Kpilot, etc. That's a nice Internet Suite with everything - browser, email, news, RSS, IM, address book, calendar, etc.
What I don't like about it is that it doesn't use SSL after you log in.
That's not true. You can use SSL all throughout. Simply start at https://gmail.google.com/gmail or even just manually change it to https after login.

I also just noticed that the domains penguinsucks.com and boycottpenguin.com are available for registration. Perhaps someone could host online protests there as well.

Yes, it's not SF to LA via Sacramento. It's two branches from Fresno to SF and Sacramento. You can see the proposed map here.

Not only slashdotted but also featured on Digg, CNN, Mashable, LifeHacker, etc. Wonder how the Cuil folks orchestrated all that?!

Only config that I found was "network.dns.disableIPv6" but the default is already "false".

I am wondering about that statement as well. Does it simply mean that the phone is locked?

Don't forget Netscape LiveConnect which allowed Javascript to invoke Java code way back in the 90s.
The VHD specs mentioned in the article are available here.
... and TweakUI is unsupported by Microsoft who wrote the app in the first place!
What?! You want a middle-aged Maradona to take on AT&T. He was great at his prime but I doubt he can do anything against AT&T ;-)
Anyone know how non-Norwegians can participate in the IPO?
