  1. This is Refreshing. on Genome Project Squabbling · · Score: 1

I am glad to hear that doctors actually care about patients and are not money grubbing fools. Sadly the corperations are now running this country and from aids medication to your own genes they plan to own, market, and distribute their products. I hope the non-profit Genome project gets off its hands and starts working faster but that takes money that only the corps have. I hate the idea of Pfizer holding my life in their hands. Now that is scary.

  2. To many unknowns. on Linux-based Internet Radio Appliance · · Score: 1

There are really to many unknowns with this internet radio. Yeah for Linux and its coolness factor but sometimes ideas need more development. How does it play MP3s of of a network? FTP, SAMBA, NFS? ALso how do I really go through 4,000 streams and find what I want. FInally what is the cost. THis would be really sexxy for 100-200 dollars but over that my SB Live and surround sound can probably rock this thing to pieces and I actually know it will work and give me what I want.

  3. Other Linux Distros on Review of Corel Linux 1.1.2 · · Score: 1

I think having the other distributions will be good for the entire community. Yes, Corel (and Stormix to some point) has "dumbed" down Linux but perhaps it will bring in more people to using Linux. Then those that come may learn and grow into mature users and move to Debian or some other distro. All this does is 1) Increase user base and 2)Bring in more business respect for Linux by making it viable for the desktop.

  4. Wireless on Wireless Networks in Metropolitan Areas? · · Score: 2

Wireless can and can not be a viable solution in a metropolitan area. Huge towers are not needed depedning on the line of site issue. Being a wireless tech I can really recognize the benefits and costs of a wireless system. Point to Point of up to 50 mi is quite easy with existing Lucent equipment but once again that line of site issue is the major downfall. There are easy ways around this with relays or a nice omni directional field that will cover maybe 5 mi or more depedning on amplification.

  5. This Idea Would Not Work. on Outdoor Computer Cases? · · Score: 1

Being a WaveLan tech here in Oklahoma City I know WaveLan quite well. The way that the system is build a PC would have no means to create a cell. That is what the firmware on the AccessPoint is for. Frequency, WaveLan Network Name, Protocal Axing ect. A NEMA enclousure is only $2,000.00 and the WavePoint II is only $995.00 currently. A PC may be able to do adhoc mode but that is really just a small Point to Point frequency hopping set up.
