  1. Well, that just made my mind up on Apple Ending Engineering Credits in Products · · Score: 1

That just sealed it. I was thinking of making an apple my next computer, what with the G4 and all, but with this recent development I can't say I'll ever buy an apple product.

I can't believe I've ever advocated these morons to any customer during my days of tech support.

As an overall all-around "geek" and a bit of a programmer, I can't believe my eyes on this little bit. Any software developer working for apple just got thier pride and joy taken away - the right to call the software they created thier own.

I wouldn't be suprised if there's a slew of "layoffs" now that apple has decided to do this, as they try to get employees to sign stupid legal agreements that keep them from claiming rights to the software, if they haven't given up that right already.

Sticking with my PC, I guess.

They were charged with fraud because the tapes were undeclared and therefore was all untaxed income. That's not what I'm questioning. I'm questioning the CRIA's involvement in the matter when a lot of the music that was seized belonged to record labels that were not member companies of the CRIA or the RIAA. A mixtape is an underground DJ's chief method of advertising, and to take that away is a major handicap for us. Tapes still aren't back on the shelves here and I don't see them coming back soon. This sucks because it hurts us as DJ's, and like I said before.. we can't really afford to be hurt... DJing is hard, involving and expensive work and mixing is a lot more than sticking a bunch of CD's in a rack and hitting play.

    Chris.

  3. An intresting connection on Canadian Recording Industry Ass'n Lets DJs use MP3s · · Score: 3

As a local underground DJ here in Vancouver, it's going to be intresting to see where this goes. Over in Toronto the CRIA assisted the RCMP in the seziure of DJ mixtapes from the shelves of undergroud record stores, and the proesuction of some of the shop owners. This caused the pulling of mixtapes from at least 2 well-known underground music stores here in Vancouver. Personally IMO the CRIA has no place doing this as a lot of the record labels that are on those tapes have no association with the CRIA (a lot of the record labels that make the music come from the UK.) At the worst I see the CRIA taking a crusade against underground media (DJ Mixtapes, bootleg remixes) like the RIAA has taken against the MP3 scene. I definitely don't think we've seen the last of the CRIA tho, since the last 2 times the CRIA has been in the headlines that I've heard, the word "DJ" has been in the sentence.

And anyways, personally again the CRIA should put thier hands in another cookie jar, this one may be tasty, but it's definitely not profitiable (at least on the level I'm on now.)
