I captured it, but I'm not going to put it up on any of my servers, lest I be/.'ed.....anyone have a good external server where I can throw it? It's about 7MB.
stupid freshmen......well I don't hang around the frosh dorms too much so I guess I wouldn't know, but I still get better results from any newnet irc server than napster anyway. Actually I really wouldn't mind at all if WPI banned Napster, from a bandwidth point of view -- my moral point of view would be different tho. Yeah, well don't try running ANY server here.....they just shut off ports for almost random reasons -- mine's been shut off 3 times so far
Isn't it obvious why they have that "fill all ports" rule? This school is driven by greed, and the CCC has got to be on the top 5 list (along with the bookstore, DAKA, residential services, and the project center) and if they even THINK that the stupid undergraduate students are trying to cheat them out of their $220 fee, by having one student plug his computer into his roommate's port for $20, they won't buy it. Hell, even if your roommate doesn't even OWN a computer, who's to say he won't borrow your second computer once in a while......and if he does that then he should still have to pay the $220. They may also BS you by saying "well even if one of your roommates has moved out, a neighbor without a computer might come by to visit and maybe use your second computer"....I was able to talk them out of that last one last year by showing that EVERY other port on the floor was in use. Of course, my suite has about 1.5x computers on the network than students (I have 3 myself, but one isn't a dedicated client) so it hasn't been a problem lately.
Well....I had to deal with that st00pid network hub rule last year, and if you go down to the "cave" where the NetOps live, and explain the situation (I was in a double-single, so there couldn't POSSIBLY be anyone else using my second computer) they WILL listen.
I don't know of too many people here that DON'T have computers, and fortunately most of them don't use Napster (IRC is the best way to go for finding MP3's, IMHO) so there's been no need to ban it. That doesn't seem to be the school's style -- they just shut off your network port if you do anything silly. I'm surprised those AT&T nazis haven't gotten to us for using dialpad yet!
Oh yeah, and our network DOES suck....I'm lucky if I even GET 20K!!! For some REAL fun, try the WPI network at about 630AM; you won't recognize it!!
You know, if Windows went open-source and outside people started working on it and DID improve the OS, HOW would that be a bad thing? Wasn't the whole idea of Linux to make a BETTER OS, not trying to put M$ out of business?? Frankly, development aside -- Win2000 is probably the best OS out there....it runs a hell of a lot more stable than my Linux box -- I really don't know what other improvements COULD be made to it (aside from some new drivers for my USB scanner--which NEVER worked in Linux anyway...) to improve the OS.
Everyone keeps talking about a Simpsons movie....as a regular in alt.tv.simpsons I am REALLY starting to get sick of hearing about it. Do you know why there WON'T be a Simpsons movie?? It's because there have been too many good TV shows that have be skewered into TERRIBLE movies (think The Flintstones, The Brady Bunch---which was much more appreciated before the movie, even the JETSONS), and now the first thing that anybody thinks of when they see these shows is the movie spinoff! The writers and producers do NOT want this to happen to their show; they would only release a movie is they KNEW it would get a VERY overly positive response, and with the condition that the show has been in for the last 2.5 years (although season 11 HAS been an improvement over the last two), they aren't going to take any risks. South Park was the exception to the rule becasue the South Park movie didn't FOLLOW the rule -- the movie was what the creators intended the TV show to be, but in the land of the free(?) there's still stupid censorship on television.
Also, MOST of the many people that go into making this show are TOO busy to start a large project like that. If there ever WAS a movie, it wouldn't be until after the show got cancelled.
Oh, and before you recommend "hey, how about a live action movie?", consider that most of the actors look NOTHING like their characters, so imagine a Homer Simpson with a Dennis Franz voice! And remember that most of the actors (with an exception of Yeardly Smith, who has only played Lisa, Mrs Winfield, Maggie in "Bart vs Thanksgiving" and a couple of chorus extras) play multiple characters, so it would be IMPOSSIBLE to keep all of the voices the same.
oh, and if you see ANYTHING about the Simpsons Movie on imdb, remember that this is the same site that once accepted a submission about the Futurama movie, starring Mr T as Fry and French Stewart as Bender!
