Looking at the screenshots, it basically looks like the standard un-attractive gmail that it always was. I think yahoo has the superior interface between hotmail and gmail, and yahoo comes the closest to mimicking the desktop experience for an online email application.
I'm not denying that gmail doesn't have nice features like free pop3 and email aliases but the usability and design is rather lacking.
At most companies the web department isn't under the IT umbrella (at least at the ones I've worked at) but regardless of the dept. content management systems and the likes do take away work that regular web workers could be doing. Most WYSIWYG editor suck really really bad and still aren't worth using for the kind of code they produce.
I would suspect that this is language related. Even though most countries now days are global, scouring through billions of pieces of data is difficult to do in one language let alone another with completly seperate characters. Google would be wise to open offices in other countries and hire locals to compete with these other companies rather than a bunch of 18 year olds out of berkeley.
I think one of the more interesting missions here is the visits to the Jovian System. Europa in particular may yeild the best results within our solar system for some sort of life beyond Earth.

I still use the real player. Really the only reason I do is becuase the 100+ downloaded south park episodes I have from southparkx.net are encoded as.rm files and are better quality (for a 36mb) than anything else. Honestly though, people rip on Real but I think itunes & quicktime (bundled together mind you at 50mb+) is a much inferior product than Real. Apple and Adobe are two of the worst bundling companies out there.
I think the whole purpose for files is the ability for yourself and others to open them. Since very few non-opensouce fanboys use Open Office it doesn't make sense to save them in any other format but doc, txt, or other general formats.
I really don't care what format prevails, just as long as there is only one common format.
It takes very little work to use a css div layout in ie, the same way as firefox. Actually with ie 7 it's pretty much the same.
For the love of god people, stop talking about javscript and java in the same sentence! They're not the same, and not related. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javascript#History_and_naming

Wow you weren't kidding that looks just like the death star!

I actually downloaded the real alternative codecs but they did not work with the current .rm files I have downloaded.

Somebody steal their analytics code and bork up their stats:
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-294347-1";
urchinTracker();
