Did you ever notice how they lose interest after moderating down the FP stuff? A couple moderators drift through a few more posts but after that... GONE.
This whole "moderation thing" is a joke. The whole + and - thing is a joke. The first mention of MS getting hacked recently was marked -1 because the author (not me) posted it as a response to a FP, hoping to get noticed. This isn't a trend, it's just the way/. works.
Slashdot was scooped by everyone in the literate universe on the MS hack. That had to smart a bit.
But we were too busy arguing whether PS2 was better than Dreamcast at the time...
I like/. as an open forum, I just wish they'd lose this "moderator thing".
Somebody mod this down to -1 Repetitive, where I can read it.
I've been hearing for years that P2P is bad, evil, a waste of time and bandwidth, etc. This assertion, of course, is nonsense.
I'm wondering why CNET goes to the trouble to invest so much time and energy in such an article. Are they beholden to some corporate interest that would prefer we only use their "real" servers?
I see your point =but= where I work if they catch you installing Office 2000 on your computer there will be hell to pay. It doesn't fit into the Grand Corporate IT Scheme.
You are really dense. You should be careful because if you become too dense your head will collapse into a black hole, from which no light or anonymous postings can escape.
You had RAM?
We would have killed for RAM.
In my day we built our computers with twigs and broccoli. We'd program one problem directly into the broccoli circuits, dismember the motherboard, and then read the entrails to divine the answers.
RAM? Kids today have it too easy.
I'm just a stupid user. I don't care about the format, that would be someone else's concern. I just download the MP3's and listen to them at my convenience.
And I've certainly dl'd MP3's over 56kbps. If you think licensing fees are the problem, it's time for you to upgrade.
He may be wrong but his line of reasoning is hardly vague. He's trying to justify Napster's existence.
If you've followed this issue for any length of time you should realize by now that restricting Napster only benefits corporate interests and has little to do with protecting the rights of the artists.
Why do you think Prince (he got his name back) sells his CDs online? It's because he makes more money on the sale of each CD. And he make no bones about this.
Fanning' arguement has long been that Napster actually helps established artist and give new artists exposure they wouldn't oridinarily have.
I can't believe that DTD are a serious subject on slashdot. Next we'll be arguing about fonts.
This sucks.
Good point regarding the @yahoo.com email address.
It's an interesting concept or the most subtle troll I've seen in many years. Either way I like it.
Just what do you plan to do with this research?
Would this just be helping some government organization find new and interesting ways to restrict my online activities?
Are you planning on compiling this research into a book and selling it back to the online community?

PS2? I'll wait 'til it hits the bargain bin.
I dunno 'bout the rest of you but I have work to do.
Oh, I don't know about that.

Just thinking aloud...
Declaring victory and retreating is always an interesting ploy.
Most people will see right through it, but it's always a pleasure to see a Golden Oldie now and again.
IE?
In your dreams, Mr Gates.
I think I found your problem.
You need a new website.
In this context, it is a typo.
I suppose I'll have to explain "context" to you as well.
Gawd I'll be glad when your parents get home and unplug their computer.
I see your point =but= where I work if they catch you installing Office 2000 on your computer there will be hell to pay. It doesn't fit into the Grand Corporate IT Scheme.
But that's just my experience.
A link to a related website is karma whoring?

You got that right.
They're still very stuck on titles.
If you need links you haven't been paying attention.
HINT: The Mass Media is NOT your friend.
This is *not* informative.
But, then again, moderators, are *not* humanoid life forms.
Oh well.
MP3's not free?
I haven't paid for one yet.
Maybe you're just trolling in the wrong places.
People here will try to keep you from spending your money unwisely.
I'll bet this post gets moderated up to "+0 Grumble, grumble, grumble".
The moderators seem to have a thing against first posts, even when they're on topic.
Any sufficiently stolen sig should be credited to the original author.
You do realize this was *satire*, don't you?
Of course you do.
I've just been trolled.

I agree with him on this.
Did you bother to read the accompanying text?
I didn't think so.
Go eat mud and leave us alone.
Not fast enough for WHAT?
Sounds pretty fast to me.
I think it would be more realistic to imagine a Kodak Kluster of these things.
