The cell processor dose not have 6 cores. However, it does have 6 SPE, that are capable of self-multitasking. It was originally designed to bridge the gap between conventional desktop processors and some of the elements of specialized high-performance processors such as GPU. The architect allows it to handle multimedia and mathematical calculation without having any problems. It was never intended to be a gaming CPU until Sony came around and decided to use it for their Playstation 3.
