  1. Possible stability problem? on Slashdot Moderation Phase 1.1 · · Score: 1
That makes it sound like I'm worried about a malitious wave of attacking moderators which was not my point. Maybe it wasn't yours either but just in case... What I meant was that the original posters observation of a wave of two people voting on a article simultaneously and thus having out of sync information to base their decision on could be worse. In particular, say we hit a dry news spell, then a new story hits in prime time when half the moderators are logged in. Could get ugly.

Hopefully you are correct and this won't be an issue and even if it is I'm sure there is a reasonable fix for it.

BTW, did you know that hitting the back button clears the forms now? I used to go back if didn't like the preview......oops.

This could be a real problem in the system. Say somebody posts something borderline between insightful and flamebait. about half the moderators currently online immediately trash it. Now it's rated at -10 or worse when it should remain fairly neutral. Now, all the moderators who liked it vote it back up again (assuming you take the above suggestion, and they can even see the comment). Probably bringing it well above zero before people start paying attention to it again and zap it back down to -10.

So my questions are how do you keep borderline good/bad comments from seesawing their way into oblivian? Do you have a way of tracking the vote history so you can check to see if this is actually happenning and needs a solution?

Nice idea but probably too easy to abuse though. Just set up a script and zap any comment you don't want heard to oblivian. Or vice versa. pump up your "first post, dude" comment to +1000 forcing Rob to keep reading and deleting.

I used to laugh when I read the Dilbert cartoons about people having lengthy meetings where the only thing discussed was what to name the product. I see now that this was not commedy but educational.

Wake up folks. It's a name. Arguing over this only makes you look like a bunch of PHB's.

Looks like /. isn't complying. Maybe you care and maybe you don't but now you should at least be aware of it. It's one thing when folks cut and paste a copyrighted document into the comments. /. should censor those to cover it's ass but I doubt anyone cares that much. But, including the jennycam as an optional item in the homepage when it is explicitly requested that this not be done... that's bad netiquette IMO.
