  1. not necessarily a good indicator on Paul Allen Confirmed as SpaceShipOne's Sponsor · · Score: 4, Interesting

Allen's sponsorship isn't necessarily a good indicator that the project will be any more successful, as he has had some major slip-ups in the past. His Experience Music Project in Seattle has thus far proven to be a financial wreck.

  2. The New Freedom on Do Privacy Fears Allow Terrorism? · · Score: 1

Freedom no longer means liberty. It means security. Once you realize this, you will understand how these new policies are justified. So whenever you hear anyone discussing freedom, you should realize that he is instead talking about security.

    An example:

"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do." --Rudolph Giuliani

I know, it doesn't make much sense, does it? But if we alter it slightly...

"Security is about authority. Security is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

    Presto! Now do you understand?

  3. electroic/underground music lovers on RIAA Sues Audiogalaxy · · Score: 1

This will greatly effect techno and other electronic music lovers as AG has far better selection of rare and obscure underground mp3's than anything else.

compare results for drum-n-bass pioneer 'Alex Reece' on any other p2p with AG and you will see what I mean.

  4. this is a good thing... on Is The Net Revolution Breaking Faith? · · Score: 1

things will go back to the way they were before web commerce. the web will be more communal. it will be a medium of ideas, information, and personal exchange. maybe banner ads will go away too:)

  5. somewhat related to topic... on Philly Court Convicts 2600 Staffer on Minor Counts · · Score: 2

A roommate of mine, a real sweet quiet girl just out of college, was one of the protesters arrested in the philly warehouse. she said of all the hundred or so cops who raided the place there wasn't one who wasn't either spitting on them or hitting/kicking and just being overall abusive to them. Of course this all happened only before holding them in a crowded bus all day without telling them why they were being held. And eventually denying one girl her asthma (spellcheck?) meds. Yet I actually find this comforting: if the generally accepted 1/100 bad to good cop ratio holds true (popular wisdom is never wrong), there must be 10,000 good cops in philly (yea right).

  6. legislators... on The "Colorado Junk Email Law" · · Score: 1

personally I wish legislators would keep their hands off the web... I hate spam mail just as much as the next person but really... things will get real interesting now that the US Postal Service is going to give email to every US resident... expect to see alot more ballyhoo like this in the next few years...

  7. The Onion's take on Geek Profiling on Slashdot Meets The Pinkerton Corp. · · Score: 2

http://www.theonion.com/onion3532/columbine_jocks. html This is a few months old but The Onion is the only other 'news' or magazine entity besides slashdot that appears to have a problem with Geek Profiling as far as I know.

  8. ... on Innovation, Regulation and The Internet · · Score: 1

the notion of applying american laws to a global medium is silly. there should be zero regulation. i don't think there should be any privacy regulation or ecommerce regulation. i don't like the idea of anti-hax0r and security regulation either. yahoo, cnn, and any other site that gets hacked knew it was taking a risk when it implemented poor security measures. the internet should be governed by the users not politicians. internet tax laws are also silly. if i buy something out of state and pay to have it shipped to me then how the f*ck do i owe the state money?
