Sure hasn't been cold in Denver. I wore shorts and sandals for most of November and December. Seems like it was in the 60's (and even 70's) until right after Christmas.
A brief anecdote from current events. Western North American pine forests are being decimated by pine beetles that are thriving due to rising temperatures. Their historic range has grown because a lack of an adequately lengthy freeze during the winter is allowing them to live longer.
As a result, forests are turning gray and falling. The ecosystems they support are waning. Without tree coverage, snow melt will happen earlier and be more abrupt. Water typically stored in reservoirs will instead just flow downstream and into the ocean (unless we retrofit reservoirs to handle more capacity). This can also ultimately lead to desertification. It's also worth noting that millions of acres of decomposing trees releases quite a bit of CO2.
So, while it may be great for specific forms of agriculture in specific areas, there will also undoubtedly be terrible catastrophes caused by rising temperatures, and they have already begun.
so if Google loses billions over this it wouldn't really bother me.
Oh but it might. I'm sure it's arguable by people in power that Google has become too big to fail. The economic prosperity of Google accounts for a lot of jobs that are still left this side of the Pacific. If these "slip ups" continue, it will get to a point that they deviate from their mission and end up like every other corporation before them.
I thought they were supposed to be better than that?
Well if your buses are twice as big, then it follows that you only need half as many. Maybe if you built smaller buses, you'd accomplish twice as much.
So, your previous employer doesn't sell slot machines to Las Vegas, a city that defines the gambling industry, yet their poor practices define the "state of the gambling industry"?
I'm not sure what the limiting factor is, but on my Evo (currently out of service, but I use it with WiFi often) I am still able to use the Android Market. If I were a huge corporation and I was selling a WiFi Android tablet, I would certainly make sure the Market worked on it with a requirement for 3g.
There aren't really any compelling ($$$) reasons to support sweet graphics drivers in Linux. Talk to Adobe, Autodesk, et al... give users a reason to demand driver support.
Possible, but not likely that 30 minutes is going to be long enough to metabolize the booze to a legal level. If you're right on the edge, then I guess it could happen.
I would be compelled to determine whether or not you actually want such a floating city to remain at a constant temperature. I imagine that many bio-mechanical processes function as a result of a variable temperature gradient. Keeping at one temperature seems like it could be a bad thing.
If the tech is there to build a floating city on Venus, I'm guessing the tech is there to keep the city constantly moving so that a Earth-like 24 hour day/night cycle could be mimicked. We have evolved for a long time, messing with circadian rhythms doesn't seem like a good idea.
When I talk about sports events, only when discussing how absurd stadium names have become does the actual brand name get brought up. It's doubtful a conversation would go:
"Wow did you see the Heritage Partners Limited Sun City Fiesta Bowl at National Transport Corporation Stadium last night?"

You've come across the reason ice ages follow periods of rapid warming.

I thought it was impressive that Watson responded to one of the answers with a name that sounded French, and seemed to pronounce it correctly.
You're doing it wrong.
define: speed of light
Harsh, though, I suppose you find it easier to just let government corruption continue unabated.
Socrates never had the tools available to society today. Maybe it's time to re-think the details of what a republic truly is.
methematicians who can factor large primes in their sleep.
I'm curious to know if this was a typo or not.
Wardriving is one thing. Industrial strength wardriving is another.
Or do you think going fishing with your buddies on the weekend is the same thing as trawling nets across the Florida Keys?

who cares about the line, erase the line.
I guess you're not into the whole brevity thing.
Not to mention that this behavior in dogs is probably also influenced by circadian rhythm.
I'd rather have the Dude's job.

Who is Cringely these days? I prefer the old one. This guy isn't nearly as entertaining.

Also, affects, not effects.

complete double redundancy? (as below)
I'm impressed.

Reasonable suspicion. It's not difficult to interact with a person and determine if they are sober or not.
Alas, I agree with GP. For now the best we can hope is that they do it properly.
