  1. This is less likely to happen under Linux. on MSNBC: Stealing Credit Card Numbers Online is Easy · · Score: 1
Because I think the majority of people who got far enough into a unix to be able to set-up an e-commerce sight wouldn't be slack enough / dumb enough / so-lacking-in-self-respect so as to allow their vital databases to run with a default password.

My two cents. And I hope that it wasn't a college student than set-up that service, because that'd be really bad PR for those of us that have half a clue.

"Jeezuz Steve, those cunts down at slashdot aren't gonna be happy untli every single bug is ironed out of the whole 8000lines of windows 95."

"Yeah - that's true Bill, but watcha gonna do?"

"Aww fuck. If only those slack cunts down in development weren't so fucking shit-scared of a little hard work."

"Yeah - that's true Bill, but watcha gonna do?"

"Fuck'em all - like they says - if you want a job done properly you gotta do it yourself. Get me a workstation. I'm going downstairs."

  3. Trojan / Joke? on Free Realtime Video Editing for Linux · · Score: 2
The screenshots look real-enough - and I do not doubt that someone could write such an application - it's just the page didn't seem very professional / authentic.

And there's an unhealthy amount of anonymous cowards praising this package in a rather juvenile style.

If it's real and works well then that's really cool. If it's something more sinister. BTW: If it's a real project, I'd be real keen to help - gimp style plugins / scripting would be cool.

  4. What is needed on On Keeping Geeks in a Metropolitan Area · · Score: 1

Girls, clubs and lots of ugly guys to make life easier. Wide roads, no speed limits and lots of shitty cars to make driving more exciting. Free 486s, fast Internet and no lame gameplaying wannabe hackers. Rainy days, Sunny days and no inbetween overcast windy miserable days. Linux community, BSD community and a good paintball field. Theater, Comedy and lots of kick-ass concerts!

  5. I don't like X. on Mandrake 7.0-Beta Ready for Download · · Score: 1
I have never used a proper x config with e or kde or gnome or.... but I still don't like it. It's a clunky old beast. I would rather:

The console with really good graphical console apps. Eg:

    gifview `find / -name babes.jpg`

Would pop-up a nice image viewer over my console, hit ESC and it goes away.

    gecko www.slashdot.org

Would pop-up a slimmed down navigator so I can do all the fun console stuff but still have graphical tools, without big heavy x.

I like cdialog also. That's cool.
