And where exactly are you seeing these DiVX disks? Methinks Sherman is letting friends play with the Wayback Machine...

It seems to be pretty common amongst /. to pick on people for bad spelling or grammar. So oh the irony that you named yourself "slashdoter." (which should be spelled "slashdotter"

Then again it may just be that he REALLY likes /., to the point where he dotes upon it. ;)

  3. Re:Based On Anemic Ticket Sales...Disney Factor? on Review: 'Titan A.E.' · · Score: 1

Well, i was kinda looking forward to seeing this, but none of the local cineplexes were showing it! Coincidently, they WERE all playing Fantasia 2000. I vaguely recall some article months back about Disney contracting it so that theaters couldn't play competing animation if they wanted to run F2K. Anyone else remember this?

I don't care enough to go dig for it, but it might explain low ticket sales (well, above and beyond any quality issues).

  4. Get a clue on Smell Of Fresh Cut Grass Trademarked · · Score: 1

As has been repeated...it's NOT a patent.

And they haven't trademarked the "scent of grass". They've trademarked "grass-scented tennis balls". So you'll only be in violation if your lawnmower runs over a tennis ball, the ball emerges unscathed but for a grassy aura, and you then try to sell it. So relax...

Ahh...Newbury Comics. That brings back memories. I remember taking the subway into Boston just to get cheap CDs there, back when the only one was the one on Newbury St. Then the Harvard Square one opened, which was much bigger. Also used to be a great place for bootleg video tapes, though i'm betting they don't do that much now. Oh, and t-shirts. I think my entire high-school wardrobe came off their wall. :)

Good to see that even now they're still cheap.

    Oops...way off topic...

I agree. The killer's identity and connection to Sidney was pretty obvious early on. It was just a matter of randomly picking which person would end up getting to be "it". And because it really could have been ANY of them, there was no suspense.

Saying you needed "genius" to guess the ending is kinda like saying it takes genius to guess a number from 1 to 1000. It could be any of them...

  8. Amazing...simply amazing. on DeCSS Injunction Ruling · · Score: 1

How is that the simple fact that DeCSS has nothing to with copying, that you can copy a DVD bit for bit without any sort of decryption, continues to evade the judges attention? That alone would seem to avoid any violation of the DMCA. Sigh... ...and i realize you CAN copy with it, but it's not required to do so, and thus circumvents nothing.
