If the database was poorly implemented because so many people refused to work on it, we should be happy. Imagine if the list was well designed and worked just the way it should have. It would still be an affront to personal liberty and the freedom to travel. Lets face it, the basic idea was silly anyway because terrorists tend to keep low profiles.
Now, because it has affected so many innocent people and has needled its way into everyday life, the system will have to get a second look. If it was done right by a guru, the system could stay for decades. It might not last the next presidency at this rate.
This doesn't mean the US won't have a cyber-warfare program. It just means that the Air Force has given up on its bid to be the one running it. It will be the Navy, Army, or NSA in charge in that event.
You always hear about people in life and death situations finding the sound of approaching helicopters (or whatever is rescuing them) to be the most pleasing sound they ever heard.
Having it sound like r2 would be perfect. I don't think being patronized is your biggest worry if you're trapped under a building. Any sound at all that could mean that more help is on the way will be best thing they ever heard given that people sometimes spend days trapped under rubble after natural disasters.
Another quote from the link in parent:
"Many people would never dream of walking into a store and stealing a CD or a DVD. Why? Because it's against the law. "
I can't speak for anybody else, but I don't steal a physical CD or DVD because stealing is immoral. I am depriving the store owner of what is rightfully his. I don't care about the law. If something is illegal but moral, the law should be disregarded. I'm not depriving anybody of anything when I copy a sequence of bits, (assuming I would not have paid for the CD) so I don't see the moral issue.
Oh, right, this is America. Carry on.
Being slashdot, I just assumed we were talking about consoles. I almost never have to look at a web page for a long period of time, but I do have to look at a text editor for hours at a time.

Experts soon agreed that the portrait was done in the 1820s when Ada was approximately four-years-old. Perhaps the experts are wrong, but personally I'm of the opinion that if its good enough for the experts its good enough for me.
Remember that NASA doesn't actually get very much funding given what is expected of them. If they had a military budget and they screwed up it would be a different story...

But after we execute the guilty, what politician will be left to govern us?

You mean an anti-half-scale-tank missile.
