  1. Re:Well, there's one BIG difference on End of Some Days, Beginning of Others · · Score: 1
Sadly, religion is all too often used as an excuse for violence and bloodshed. The result is that all members of a religion end up being grouped with the extreme elements that murder, slay and kill. How many people hear the term "Middle Eastern Muslim" and immediately think "Terrorist?" How many people group all Christians with the Crusaders and the "Christian Coalition?" Both generalizations are unfair and unjust.

My point was that bigotry and hatred are things that transcend race, creed and politics. Please don't attribute murder and torture with my religion just because history contains examples of people using their faith as an excuse for murder. Keep in mind that ALL other religions (Including Atheism) are just as guilty of torture, censorship and everything else. The USA is a predominately Christian nation, which is why most of the examples you're thinking of involve that faith. Look at the Muslim Jihad, or the battles between the different Hindu religions. Look at what Communist China and the Soviet Union did to Christians, Muslims, Hindus and everyone else.

Please don't call torture, censorship and murder the "Christian Way." Doing so reveals ignorance of history, and an unhealthy focus on the crimes of one religion.

PS. You'll probably point out that not all atheists are communist. I know this, that's my point. It is only the extreme elements of ANY religion that turn to what you're calling the "Christian Way." Sadly, the extreme elements are the vocal ones who get noticed and create the stereotypes.

Why is it so many of the atheists I know are vocal, bitter and convinced that everyone who believes in God must be a complete, backwards moron?

Mind you, most of the atheists I know are no different from the Christians, Muslims, Wicans, etc, but there is a core group that's arrogant in the extreme! Sadly, such an overbearing, mocking attitude is all too common in our society, and I've noticed it's often the result of deep-rooted fears and inadequacies.

believe whatever you want, just don't mock everyone who has different beliefs. It's such an ethnocentric way of looking at the world, and is no different that the blind arrogance that lead Curasders and NAZIS to slaughter Jews, Skinheads to kill Blacks, and homophobic cowards to gang up and murder gays.

Whatever your views, if you take an arrogant attitude towards "The Other" all you do is stroke the ego of those who agree with you, and eliminate your credibility with anyone who does not agree with you 100%.

While professionally employed as a geek, I am at heart a fiction writer, and I wanted what ammounted to a keyboard with some ram, a way to enter the ideas I get when I'm away from my computer without having to transcribe my sanscrit like handwriting.

At the time I was looking around, the only palmtop device with a keyboard that was in my price range was the Cassiopeia A-10 and A-11, both WINCE devices. I needed a keyboard because I type much faster than I write longhand, even on the tiny handheld keyboard.

Soon after my purchase, I learned that WINCE Services were a joke. I couldn't use my Internet connection while having my palmtp connected (they both use dial-up networking) and the freeware Filegram utility was spotty in its performance at best!

A month after I bought my new toy on e-bay, they came out with a keyboard for the Palm Pilot, and I was kicking myself for my mistake. If only I had waited! If I had just been more patient I could have had a bigger keyboard, more software, a supported device and easier syncronization!!!! ARGGGG!

  5. Big Crunch = Big Bang on Reverse Time Could Explain Dark Matter · · Score: 1
    Here's an interesting thought:

Time is just a variable, like any other dimension. Many subatomic particles move independantly of time. (It's even been proposed that there is only one electron, and it's just bouncing through space-time in ways we don't understand.)

What if the Big Bang and the Big Crunch are the same event? We see them as different because we have a Nutonian concept of time instead of a Quantum one. There is a single creation point, and all mater/antimater/energy radiate from that central point. Subatomic particles have been observed moving backwards in time (Or at least acting like they are), so it's not that crazy an idea. What if existance as we know it is the intersection of this event's various influences?

The cosmic Nirvana may hold countless universes, each with a total energy of zero. What if the entire universie is nothing more than this burst of energy, warping and twisting in space?

    Fasinating.....

As far as an ID comparison goes, I think BOTH firms should have disclosed what data was was being bounced around. Of course, all ID was trying to do was determine what video cards to focus development efforts on. These putzes look like they're starting to build a very valuable database.

I tried their software once. The cursors were harder to use than the ones I usually use, and they were annoying. Fortunately, I've reformatted the computer since then...

Id's response, "Here's how to turn it off" Comet's response, "Really, we know it pisses you off, but it's OK that we're doing this!"

BTW: Did you know many quake servers track your stats? Hours played, frags et. There's even a web site where you can view your profile, set up a home page and so on. Does THAT piss you off?

Yes, and if it's on Usenet, it must be true! Why, I remember when I read a Usenet post about the aliens invading the Earth, and how they needed to mine a secret crystal formation for energy, and if they didn't it would blow up and destroy North America.

Yes, I have a LOT of faith in EVERYTHING I see on Usenet

BTW: Didn't the Bible also say that we wouldn't know the hour or the day of the second comming? Please don't tell me I'm dealing with one of those poor cooks who is waiting for the $@&% "Rapture"

If I had a dime for every time some putz started babling about the "End Times" I'd have more $$$ than B. Gates. Heck, the New Testemant mentions a group of Christians who sat down, sold everything and were waiting for Christ to return. I can't remembe rif it was Paul or Peter who told them to get back to work...

The world will end when the world ends, and all the time you spend worrying about it is a bigger waster than a Pauly Shore movie.
