The power of a monopoly depends on the market you claim it is monopolizing. If you said, "Microsoft is monopolizing the software industry", then that would be incorrect. But if you asked, "Is Microsoft monopolizing the market for x86 compatible desktop operating systems," then you would have to say yes. The question the court posed in the Microsoft litigation is which other products are interchangable in use by consumers. If you have an x86 computer, you cannot use MacOS, so that was the narrow market that was defined. Clearly, MS monopolizes that market.
Warner and the other music majors are attempting a "price squeeze". The major labels control the music rights and also sell music CDs to consumers. iTunes and other online retailers need a music license from the majors to compete, uh, against the majors. So what do the majors do? They charge a high price to the online retailers so that the Internet music prices are high. Therefore, the majors get to hold onto their old-school business. Innovation in the form of Internet delivery is stymied. The fact that they make more on the music licenses themselves is icing on the cake.
If I recall correctly, Warner has a significant marketshare and tends to be the "market leader". Also, it tried to fix prices on certain Three Tenors recordings. That might be why they're on a short leash. Surely, if the subpoenas lead to anything, others will also get supoenas.
The Sherman Act gives state AGs the power to sue on behalf of its affected citizens as parens patriae. Private parties affected by anticompetitive conduct can also sue, but consumers in general ordinarily do not have a cause of action.
That's only if you believe in that Godless evolution claptrap they got all the kids learning in the schools. God made the flu, and if He wants to smite the sinners, He shall do so. It is God's will.
I don't think they tried too hard to hide their association. The company was called Elmtree and their Slashdot ID was elmtree95. Still, I wonder if anyone was paid because it was so blatant.
The article says that the children in this study will be between 5 and 14 of age. Your child was injured before birth, so the two may vary in the amount of recovery strength.
Does Yahoo Mail and MSN Mail work on all the browsers in the world? That may be a reason why Google Mail may be holding out. I am taking a wild-assed guess.
Good point. When I need a hard drive, I wait until Best Buy has a free drive and then get two and RAID them. Redundant Array of Inexpensive (or free after rebate!) Drives.
Furthermore, it's his website, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.
I have to disagree with this. It's akin to saying Linux is Linus' so he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. Or that Slashdot belongs to CmdrTaco so he can post all the dupes he wants. Others have come to rely upon his website so he ought to stick with self-guiding principles like NPOV and not writing or altering an article about himself (aside from contributing stuff like his birthday and hometown, I guess). Because how neutral can someone be about themselves outside of these hard facts?
Believers in DNA believe in evolution. Humans share many essential genes with fruit flies. It's called conservative homologues. So if you do believe in DNA and all the wonders it has produced for conservatives, such as using DNA evidence to put those criminals on death row.
Science is not about proving statements but rather disproving them. ID proponents say, "Theories are just guesses. And it's the theory of evolution that we are against being taught as fact." But science requires a theory to be at least falsifiable. There has to be a way to prove it wrong. Statements that are: "Tails I win, heads you lose" cannot be science because it cannot be disproven or proven. So ID is not even a theory. It's a random guess no one can confirm or deny.
Google has finally been forced to compromise in the face of business reality. Apparently, AOL is ten percent of Google's business. If AOL took its business to, say, Microsoft's new search engine then Google would be in trouble. So what do you do to stay alive? Sell out a piece of your soul.
He's trolling. "Bukkake-broadband"? Please, someone google "Bukkake". Or click on his link to read an interesting article...

And this week Dvorak pretends anti-trust laws dont exist.
With the recent hard drive merger, why would he assume otherwise?

What if the cellphone CPU is just as powerful as laptop CPU? The mobile chip is pretty stromg.

Spend the money and get a RAID card. Forty Bucks..
Gee. They bought AOL today and they already had an insecurity? Quick workers, those Google Engineers.
It's as if a million geeks cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
OMG! really?

broke the computer cupholder again.

Erm, but the Hitchhiker's movie, uh, blew. I wanted it to be great, but it was not.

I think that we are supposed to laugh at these idiots.

Those who moderate, can't comment.
Hushmail.
Google will do something really annoyingly cool like AIM-targeted ads. Sure, we hate it in concept, but how bad are the text-ads in Gmail right now?

We know where Beagle 2 was last reliably seen and Beagle 2 is running away from us.
