(fyi) deep blue was dismantled and ibm has not released any info about it's decisision algorithms. Claims that there was a human element behind the seen are still out there. Overall, the event was useless as we learned nothing about how it was done.
I've seen plenty of reporst from intel about how the willamtette is going to be 1.5 ghz, however, that's all, nothing along the lines of having fixed stability problems in that were in the p3 core. Much less this processor isn't for another 8-10 months... I don't remember hearing about the athlon like this 8 months before release. Maybe i'm wrong, I don't remember the exact release date that is set for the willamette, but i'm pretty sure it's no time soon. Where's any real benchmarking, where's the things that actually mean anything about the chip. Also, in general intel tries to kill you with chip prices. on a second note, this is a question. How many fpu's did were on the chip?
as annyone who ever took a statistics classes in college: you can always find the statistics to prove a point, regardless.... Microsoft is a master at this. This is much like intel boosting there stock price by mentioning the 1.5 ghz willamette not out for a whiles (year?)... By the time they're tere, AMD may be wa7y ahead, rather THEY WILL BE, but consumers and investors are thinking like "hey the willamette's here tomorrow" The keyfor microsoft has always been "tweaked" information and using unfair advantages (need i mention how ie preinstalled on win 98 has given them a web browser monopoly)....
Nothing is really x86 anymore as is... New chips are designed to emulate the old form x86, while taking advantage of new technologies, hence out of order execution and multiple fpu's are possible in new cpu's, but weren't previously, yet the pcpu's execute code from eons ago...
Intel seems to miss the entiire point, by the date of release of the willamette, their chip will almost indefinately be inferior to the AMD chip which is superior to their current technology. The earlier articale at Tom's Hardware really summed how meaning less the willamete is... What's more, intel actually charges more for their inferior chips, but people are catching on... slowly. I've begun talking to "non-geeks" who can tell you that the p3 is inferior... And they Won't be able to catch AMD (unless AMD makes a stupid mistake, like the itanium)

what about cordic?
i think it'd be funny if they created the .cum's for pr0n... like the ad's would be "now part of the .cum netowrk" and ibm would be the dot in dot cum
Not one but two FPU's? SWEET... this could slowly dig cyrix out... their lack of fpu killed them previously, who knows what will happen now
it's always interesting to hear a new slashdot episode, and its nice to hear a new one this soon... thanx d00ds
